Y'all are pussies. Only thing keeping me from moving to Canada is it's got no equivalent to the ADA law. Otherwise I'd be moving to Vancouver or Toronto in a heartbeat.

Well, the clean up has begun... I was down in the lower side of my suburb today helping those less fortunate than myself throwing out their entire life's possessions onto the street to be dumped. The smell was damn near overwhelming, as was the devastation.
I then went a few suburbs up to visit on the execs from my company whose house went one and a half floors underwater. The place was utterly wrecked. We gave up cleaning the walls when they started falling down and just began to rip all the soaked plasterboard off the walls and ceilings to expose the beams to let them dry out. Very sad, no insurance protection either so talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Do you all have a government backup plan to help out those who don't have flood insurance? I know when we had a big flood down here a few years back, FEMA came down and helped rebuild alot of the damaged buildings for people who couldn't immediately afford repairs. Certainly Australia has something similar, right? Specially considering its a country well known for its extreme weather.

If you were going to pimp Canada as an awesome place with ball hair giving super freezing spells then fine.
But you were pimping it in response to my post about there being no-where that is politically stable with nice weather (-30? Get out), nice landscapes and no beasts or risk of Acts of God to mess things up.

I was just thinking about that PigLick and was on my way here to post exactly what Kolya said.
On the one hand I'd be gutted to lose everything but in some ways it'd be like having a totally fresh start (provided it wasn't financially crushing), like stepping over a new horizon. As long as you didn't lose all your really personal and irreplaceable things like family photos it could potentially be... yes, liberating. I could well imagine it just sucking big time though but you've got to try to be positive, eh?
