Ok, I'm 1 minute into the game but I had to stop to come here and rave about it. IT'S AMAZING! :D
THAT INTRO! :D
Yakoob on 27/7/2016 at 16:59
Haha you would rave about the intro. I've always disliked the gameplay of blendo stuff (like the one before 30 Flights) but love everything else. Gonna pick it up next time or goes on sale

A somewhat (
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2016/07/27/quadrilateral-cowboy-review/) underwhelming review from RPS:
Quote:
t’s not that the game feels too short. It’s that it feels like a succession of tutorials leading up to a game that then lasts for just a few missions. None of the tools you’re introduced to feel as if they’re used to their full potential. You’re given a chance to get used to them and then the game moves on.
Still want to check it out when on sale for another burst of Blendo's charming world and design and the "little things" that are characteristic of his work.

Just finished QC, reposting what I posted on the Idle Thumbs forums here...

Awwww maaaan.
It ended just as it was getting good! Maaaaaan!
I mean, sure, it was good before that as well. 1 minute into the game, right after the intro, I had to alt-tab out to go rave about it on another forum. With all the previews focusing on the hacking I'd forgotten that this was gonna be another super-cinematic Brendon Chung production. But all the missions, tho fun, mostly felt like tutorials. It wasn't until the Abby Yoyo Space Elevator, when I realized I was going to have to use the Weever like that, that I felt like the training wheels were finally coming off. And it was super tense, going through this long complicated mission, knowing it'd be back to square one if I messed up. After a few attempts I finally beat it, and then... it was over. Man.
I hope the modding scene for this takes off.

Here's a little video of me using the Autocase, one of the coolest tools in the arsenal.

Some more TTLG folks need to get on this. There's leaderboards at the end of every mission where you can compare your missiontime with your friends, and at the moment it's only me and Neb playing it.

Wow, it's 5% off right now - that's a savings of one whole dollar! I don't remember seeing such a small discount before on Steam.
The reports that the game is short is kind of strange, considering the game took four years to make.
Yakoob on 1/8/2016 at 02:40
Yea I was like "wtf" on he discount. But I guess thats the brilliance of it - its so weird it creates a new talking point. Or Maybe Blendo just wanted to be quirky again.
And according to a kill screen interview with Chung, a lot of it was iteration and figuring out how to get the interfaces (like typing) not to scare players away. I can totally see how it took so long given he is pretty much a one man team.

Certainly a lot of work has gone into all the systems, but many of them are then barely used at all in the main game. The whole thing kinda feels like a build-up to the modding scene Blendo hopes will spring up and take it from here. I hope that bet works out. Hell, if I knew my way around Dark Radiant I'd be tempted to make a level myself, just to have something more to play.
Also, a lot of love and time was clearly been poured into the interludes between the levels. Some of those scenes are packed with detail, and there's fun diversions like a badminton game you can play at one point.
Yakoob on 2/8/2016 at 05:27
So pretty much what RPS said holds true. Bummer. But it's the mission interludes I'm actually looking most forward to - I did not care for the Gravity Bones gameplay either. That's why I loved 30 Flights for dropping all that and just sticking to the story and visual presentation, and excelling at that.
