From what I get, you need to convert a blender file to .bin to put it into thief 2. I dont know if im right about this or not. Im still learning this stuff. I want to convert .BIN into a blender file because I want to see thief 2 objects in blender. Anyone know of a program I could use?

To get .bin files into a 3d program, you need to convert the .bin into an .E and then the .E to .3ds. You can do this by using the BintoE.exe and Eto3DS.exe programs from Shadowspawn's Free the Objects toolkit, which you can get here: (
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/shadowspawn/Tools.html)
It has the instructions on how to use the programs (beware, they're command-line driven).
Once you have the .3ds file, you can import it to blender. then you can save it as a blender file if you like.
to get a blender file into thief, you basically need to do the reverse. Export the file as .3ds. Then you use a program called n3ds2e ((
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=631)) to convert it into .E, and to convert the .E to bin, you use BSP.exe, which you can find on your thief2 cd. These programs work the same way (command-line) as the tools mentioned earlier.
However, I'd recommend that you use Nameless Voice's Graphical 3ds>Bin utility for converting .3ds files to .bin objects.
you can find it at his site: (
http://www.geocities.com/nameless_voice/)
Go to
utilities and look under
--3d Modelling Tools--.
sorry, I was too afraid to include a direct link, since it's Geocities.

All my tools (and the ones we got from LGS) are command line tools. You need to open a command window and type in the commands.
Sorry, it's old school, but building a GUI for one of these things just takes too much time. And I was trying to get these things to work right, not look pretty. :tsktsk:

In other words, you have to open the command prompt. There is probably a shortcut to that in the first part of the Start menu. If not, go to Start > Run and type cmd
You can use the cd command to change the current folder. However, I've found that
I can only run some command-line programs from the default folder that cmd starts with (C:\Documents and Settings\username), so I've got things like bintoe and Eto3ds in that folder. Maybe there's a way around that, but I'm too lazy to find out.
I then use Start > Run to use the programs (e.g. bintoe table.bin). An advantage of using Run is that previous commands are remembered, making it a little easier to remember program names, command syntax etc.
(Actually I've written a batch file which runs bintoe followed by eto3ds, and I run that instead, but I think it's best to get to grips with ordinary commands before you start using batch files.)

Perhaps NV could make a GUI for bin>3ds as well (no pressure).
Shadowspawn on 17/4/2008 at 13:16
I thought NV's tools converted in both directions...

But using that to convert bin to 3ds requires knowing the whereabouts of an invisble component.
