How do you enter the puzzle canel under the palace?

Enter the maze from the third level, then follow it into the Inner Canal.
For the upcoming puzzle, I'll give you a hint:

You shouldn't tell him what level to enter, your supposed to explore them all (though thats boring and has no point). But you jump off the stairs into one of the canals, then enter through one of the grates, if you are on the above mentioned level then if you go out of the water and into the passage which passes through the 2 sides there is a door in the centre of the passage into the room with the shrine. You can go up the stairs and read the shrine and notice there is a forcefield which you can't go through yet. Solve the riddle on the shrine (which you may do only in the room and it will turn black for a second when you do) and then you can go through the forcefield and finish off your journey.

I must have walked past that entrance 50 times and never even noticed it before because I was expecting to be attacked again and wanted to be ready in case I was.
Thanks for your help and I will try to take more notice of what is around me from now on.
