I'm not even going to read that article, it would make me feel sick, but let me say that anyone who kills an animal so viciously should be in jail for a long long time.

But do you really think that is what people do when others do loathsome shit?
That
is what people do. As mentioned, killing people who "had it coming" is an all-time favorite. Contemporary Western society has mostly rejected killing for honor or vengeance, but history is full of people who've unleashed their frustration as 'justified' violence.
I don't think that anyone here has a pedo-killin' knife they'll only lay down if they see an argument on the internet. Yeah, you are venting. It's disturbing because the
manner in which you've vented isn't some hypothetical. People have been killing and torturing under the pretense of righteousness for centuries, and seeing that attitude rise up is unpleasent for much the same reason seeing "maybe it isn't too bad for some kids to get raped" is. I don't want to get into which attitude is worse; they're both bad. It's not a contest.

You know they can't be reached because of that lack of empathy. Anyone who kills has reached that ultimate selfishness.
Well, I don't know that. I don't think people are 'done' at 5 or 6, or even when they've reached "ultimate selfishness." That's not to say anyone should get a mulligan on their first murder. If someone demonstrates that they murder people, take steps to make sure they don't do it again.* Get really angry at them, it's normal. Don't assume they'll stay the same way forever because
no one knows. You can't act with empathy if you can't give people the benefit of a doubt.
That's also not to say that anyone who gets another chance and sufficient sympathy will become a great person. It's not the point though, really. They're still
a person, and they experience pain in much the same way you, your kid, a puppy, or anyone else does. I'm not really interested in whether it's 'better' for a murderer to suffer than a puppy. Again, It's not a contest; if you're against suffering, hold yourself to it.

But don't figure everything is a battle you must win at the cost or expense of another as it belies your supposed concern for humanity. Is it a shit opinion to say humanity begins at home?
I secretly like you; you Give a Damn, and that's cool regardless of what we disagree on. But if anyone ever found it, it would ruin my merciless defense of mercy.
*Locking people up and keeping them away from sharp objects is good, but we've had a lot of trouble implementing it. People in prison suffer any number of well-documented indignities, and too often the response is "well, they Had it Coming, they're the bad guys."

The USA being a major exception, where vengeance is considered an adequate justification for the death penalty by the majority of the population. You're gonna see a *lot* of that if any of the 9/11 folks are ever publicly tried on US Soil (which it's looking like at least one will).
Not trying to start a death penalty argument, mind you, just pointing out that within the USA (which Tocky may be in?) this is a culturally acceptable position.

I dunno man, that's a pretty big statement to make.
Not only are the majority of the US population in favour of the death penalty, they are primarily in favour for reasons of vengeance?
I agree that's a terrible reason to be pro death penalty, but I wouldn't apply it so broadly to an entire nation without seeing some HARDCORE STATS.
Pretty sure plenty of people in other countries have similar feelings too, unfortunately. That's why it can be a good idea to challenge them when they express violent revenge fantasies out of the blue!

ooohhhh nooooooooooo
PS: I wrote the 'tocky goes bananas' tag BACK IN THE DAY; it refers to the ancient videogame Toki, in which you 'go bananas' and, indeed, also 'go ape'
I felt that Tocky, whose name you may notice is very similar to the videogame name Toki, was exhibiting strange behaviour on a thread about paedophiles - something which colloquially could be referred to as 'going bananas, going absolutely bananas'
hope you enjoyed my boring joke explanation

Looks like this has gone offtopic again.
I'll just bump in with a quick laugh. :joke: I think the author of this thread made the title intentionally as dramatic as possible.
And frankly, it looks like animals have gotten weak these days. I have my doubts, that a puppy/dog would've died so easily, say, a century ago.
Some seem to be seriously overreacting about the teens that did that. They're probably assholes, yeah, but the odds just tell they didn't do it intentionally.
My 2 innocent cents. :p
