Seems a shame not to try anyway, although I do understand not wanting your own influenced by them. It may do them some good to get an explaination in detail about why you don't want them about. At the very least it will give them a taste of how the world is going to react to them as adults should thier behavior not change.
I keep thinking of Clockwork Orange and Country of the Kind by Daniel Keyns.
I agree - it's not that I WANT to be like that, it just seems the only reasonable thing to do at this point. I certainly don't want to isolate my kids from them because dealing with those types of people is a huge part of their social development, especially since my youngest has never been in daycare/preschool. Aside from the relationship between the kids, I as an adult don't feel like being lied to and bullshitted by a 10 year old who acts like I'm an idiot - unless I'm being paid to or must for some overarching social reason. But I don't, so he can play with my kids all he wants, and they'll learn to deal with him, but I'm still going to call that type of kid on his bullshit because compassion and explanations are wasted on him.
Tocky on 3/11/2009 at 03:39
Maybe they are wasted on him... and maybe not. It takes a long time to get through to some and you never can tell what is going to stick BUT your own kids will see your stubborn steadfast compassion and even if you fail him THEY will remember. I'm not saying be gullable or not to reprimand and I'm not in your situation so I'm not judging but although compassion may be wasted on the person bestowed it is never wasted coming from the giver.
Forgive me if that sounded preachy. I know that beyond a certain age they are set in stone but I'm damned if I can figure when that is. Knowing what childhood SHOULD be it's just so damned sad to see it otherwise. I always hope when it comes to kids.

As bad as this is it's still not as bad as people standing around watching a 15 year old get gang raped and doing nothing. SO CHEER UP!:):):):):):):):D:(
Really, now some of you can understand how I feel when some piece of shit hurts a kid. For some of you imagine how you would feel if your favorite anime character was killed or favorite conspiracy theory debunked.
seems like you went looking for one dude
Anyway, what you seem to repeatedly -- continually -- assume is that an insufficient display of retaliatory anger indicates apathy.
Everyone gets angry when they read a Terrible Event story. I'm sure that everyone here has had times when they've wanted to hurt someone. What separates yourself (and bikerdude, apparently) is coming to the point of asking "why shouldn't i kill the bastards?"
Maybe you don't really want to kill any pedophiles, or puppy-kickers, or whoever you hate most today. Hopefully you wouldn't if you were given the chance. What you've
presented though is a cavalier fascination with vengeance and with inflicting pain on those who inflict pain. When met with the fact that this is contradictory and horribly unethical, you've responded with "you guys just don't CARE ENOUGH."
Assuming I did care enough to ask, what would be the point of GETTING THE BASTARDS? I suppose immediate death sentence will prevent recidivism. Maybe sufficiently terrible retribution will scare away future offenders, though that argument tends to take a beating when it's trotted out.
That's not what it's about for you though, is it? Your posts always take the form of "here's what should be done TO the jerks," not "here's what's to be done about the jerks." I won't suggest that you don't really care -- I think it's pretty obvious you do -- but your desire for visceral retribution isn't akin to justice and isn't something to wear with pride.
What does the visceral, gun-to-the-head, see-you-in-hell brand of 'justice' gain you, anyway? A little rush of endorphins for you or the victim? That's exactly what the attacker was after. Yes, but he did wrong, he DESERVED it. The world is lousy with people who "deserved it," whether they're women in low-cut tops, guys who pissed you off one too many times, or heathens and non-believers.
I'm sure violence towards any of these people is very satisfying, otherwise it wouldn't have achieved such all-time popularity It isn't justice though, and it has nothing to do with compassion. If you don't like suffering then
don't inflict it. Otherwise you'll need a better excuse than "that's what he deserved."

No need for violence against these pricks. Just tie a sign around their necks saying what they did, and have them parade around downtown or in the public square for about a week. It'll humiliate them, and destroy them socially :ebil:
Singing Dancing Moose on 4/11/2009 at 01:50
yeah but i wonder if you really 'got' my post
Azaran on 4/11/2009 at 02:08
Yeah I did. I just had to put that in there though, as an alternative solution. I know you don't condone retaliation, but for those who do I think this would be a good alternative to violent revenge
dj_ivocha on 4/11/2009 at 02:45
So just hang an inflammatory sign around their necks and send them downtown instead? Haven't you learned anything from Die Hard 3, man?

Did you read my post? You quoted it and then infered which isn't the same.
Some things set people off. They vent. I recognize it. You vent in regard to me. You and some others sometimes even use knowledge as a weapon to vent someone rather than a tool to shape them. Some of the things people vent over seem damned silly to me in light of the depravity we have to face as humans. Not that the death of an innocent pup is one of them.
I was saying I can relate to the anger and frustration and poking a bit of fun at what some get wound up about. I can't even understand why anyone who has read my older posts wouldn't get that I'm not really some vengence killer but just getting old and sick of assholes. Does anyone really think bikerdude or fett needs to be snarked down like a missle about to explode the justice system and all the civilization built up thus far? Quite fallible justice is all we got and I think we know it. I give people more credit because I've seen more of thier posts. That and I'm not as cynical about peoples intelligence in general, but don't tell anyone that.
Where exactly was this thread going that was so lovely before I harshly yanked it to dainty pretty me? Face it, you wanted this baby. Oh yeah. You enjoyed it. Parade that thing baby. Shake it.
