So what? Valve may be awesome but the PS3 doesn't need them. Its a shame but...
Anyways - a few days now to the reveal of the PS3 Slim I reckon. I wonder what it will have under the hood. PS2 compatibility would be nice and more info about the motion controllers too. If they reduce any of the features it will be dumb though, and given this slim model has less space its possible.

So an amorphous mass of angry internet men rushed Kotaku's comments section and started bleeding their butthurt all over it, resulting in much amusement. The irony of it all is that many of said dimwits probably didn't bother to see the source for that quote and just took Kotaku's interpretation on its own and flipped. In truth, Newell simply stated that they weren't in a position to develop to the same quality for the PS3 as for the PC and 360, and that they therefore weren't doing it anymore. Just before that, he'd even
apologised to their PS3 audience for shortcoming of their previous products for that market.

All I want is a console capable of playing PS3 games normally with an off-the-shelf price of £200. Whether the Slim becomes the new flagship and the old model gets a price cut, or the Slim is a cheaper, somehow (acceptably) stripped-down machine, I don't care, as long as I can buy a decent second-hand one off Amazon for cca. £130.

The PS3 Slim and that price cut have finally arrived, people. $300/£300 for the PS3, old and new versions, from tomorrow. Good news for a whole bunch of people, I'm sure! :D

Yay!
So it seems the old versions have dropped in price, the new version will be the same price as the current version (talking 80Gb model here), will have all the same features (phew!) but also a larger 120GB drive.
Shame there is no PS2 compatibility still.

[...] £300 for the PS3 [...]
Eh? Is that a price cut? 'Cause I seem to remember them going for that much on Amazon previously.
Anyway, in the UK at least, (
http://kotaku.com/5339676/ps3-slimpocalypse-countdown-british-retailer-slashes-ps3-prices) ASDA announced a price of £250 for the 80GiB version. Not that I'll stop whining like a
rude person until decent second-hands pop up for ~£140 on Amazon.
Iroquois on 18/8/2009 at 23:15
It's 300 Euros, so I'm pretty sure it's considerably less in pounds.
SubJeff on 18/8/2009 at 23:23
Both the PS3 80Gb and the PS3 Slim are going to be £250 now.
Xbox 360 Elite is about £225 without a wireless adapter that costs £55+, or BluRay.
Sony are finally getting it. Bring on the motion wands.
no BC :(

It comes around that £250 mark that UK retailers seem to be flirting with.

Hm, what do you mean by "getting it"? Not to put my whining into super-duper mode, but for your X360 comparison, I honestly don't give two shits - all I want is a platform capable of playing PS3 games. And while I realise that BluRay is supposedly part of that PS3 package, in terms of data storage, I can't help but wonder how many devs can take advantage of it, given the potential for X360 porting and Microsoft's one-disc-preference for it.
