Anyway, the HDTP looks good to me. JC in particular reminds me of some concept art. Assuming that the engine is not radically overhauled, a stylistic change may help excuse the problems we have now with Unreal. I am thinking about getting the PS2 game and examining it. According to nowhere in particular, the game is 833mb which leads me to believe it will be easily readable in an ordinary drive.

The point, as far as I understand it, was that the new model is good but it makes her look too old and a little ugly. With any luck, that can be fixed by improving the texture used. Maybe someone with more artistic skills than me could extract and modify it once HDTP is released, or ask the team for a copy to work with.

When I saw the new character models for HDTP, I felt a bit meh about them. They didn't try (or weren't capable enough) to stay completely faithful to the originals.
Granted the originals weren't perfect by any means but they are 'official' which counts for a lot. Maggie Chow isn't supposed to look like a middle-aged ape.
Realistic faces are hard to do convincingly though, even top budget games being released right now have some of the most hideous weird faces you've seen. Valve is one of the few companies who've made a real effort in that area but generally I think it's somewhat low priority to a lot of game devs.
Add to this the low resolution of the originals and the fact that they were rather limited geometry-wise and there's another challenge...filling in the blanks in design.
