Probably a combination of Goldeneye on the N64 (underrated as a stealth experience, I find) and even The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (which had some stealth stuff in the Garuda fortress I vividly remember pulling my hair out over). A few REALLY early MMOs had light Stealth stuff, too. I remember playing a Thief in 'Legends of Kesmai' on GameStorm, and being able to 'hide' from other players. That was neat, but rudimentary. But Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was probably the closest I came to full first-person stealth, prior to Thief. You had lockpicking, pickpocketing, backstabs and could upgrade all your stealth skills. It was janky, and it was an RPG, but you could see where it could all go, if given the proper focus.

Oh man, the lego castles from that era were my childhood! I'm pretty sure I had one of the bigger ones at some point but the only one I definitely remember having was this one:

When I was a kid, I always creeped at night past my parents' and brother's bedroom while they were sleeping, trying to make little to no sound. I'd then use my dad's laptop to play a buncha RPGs, then I'd place the laptop and charger cable exactly as they were positioned before. I don't really ghost in Thief, but I suppose that was my first taste of it :cheeky:

I saw the Thief Demo all over the place in my early teens, and it never seemed interesting. Then over Thanksgiving the one year, my uncle was playing it on my Grandma's computer. I was immediately hooked and loved it. My best friend and I still quote it and give each other birthday greetings with Thief themes.
