PROTECT INTERNET NEUTRALITY!!

I guess this is for US citizens only.
When I tried to sign the petition they said my area wasn't affected. So, uh, cool I guess.

I think we should give the Internet to the Pirate Bay. That, combined with Sealand, would make them an unstoppable world power.

Fortunately with the AT&T/Bellsouth merger comes their concession of such rights:
Quote:
One of the most important concessions is AT&T's commitment to a basic set of principles that establish a practical implementation of Net neutrality. Specifically, it agreed "not to provide or to sell to Internet content, application, or service providers, including those affiliated with AT&T/BellSouth, any service that privileges, degrades or prioritizes any packet transmitted over AT&T/BellSouth's wireline broadband Internet access service based on its source, ownership or destination."

The website seemed big on claims and low on facts. Besides, Ofcom here just says they'll hit providers with anti-competition law if they need to.
So, meh.

I think the fewer the number of telecom companies competing with each other, the more likely "net neutrality" is. If there were a lot of companies competing they would try different strategies, like charging different rates to different people (ladies' nights at bars, seniors' and students' discounts are all example, although they unlike a tiered internet they do not offer different service). Standardization is what should be expected when one company is in a dominant position.

In that case we should give the internet into microsoft's hands because they have proven in the past how few competitors provide a neutral position.
