Hey all, I currently have 4 of these and I'm just wondering what they're for. I noticed you can use certain ones at the propylon chambers and it will warp you to another chamber. Are they just another way of travel?

yes

Yes, and a really poor one, IMHO. Those strongholds are typically in the middle of nowhere. It would be like if someone gave you Farmhouse Teleportation Devices when you were trying to make your way across the country. Yes, you can cover large distances quickly, but getting from and to the strongholds is a big waste of time.

Hrm... I've gotta disagree, I use them all the time. I just guild-guide to Balmora, fly to Hlormaren, and I'm all the way across the world in a matter of moments. Now granted, you have to have most of them for that to work, but it's well worth it IMHO. It's even better if you have the 'master_index' plugin, as you can jump to any of them from the Caldera MG if you do the plugin's quest. (And you're pretty much told where each one is, at that)
For example, say you want to get to Vas... you can either take a series of ships to Dagon Fel and then tromp over land & sea, or you can teleport to Valenvaryon, swim a short distance, and be within spitting distance in 1/2 the playing time (and one hundredth of the game-time as well)

Hmm... you might have me there. I just rely on the boats, striders, and mage-guides. And my handy Amulets of Divine Intervention and Awhathisnames Intervention. Maybe I'll download that plugin and give it a shot. I just typically avoid those strongholds unless I have to enter for a quest. Too many beasties. I'm a city boy at heart... :)
