Ok i have to admit I havent played game for a while, but I can tell u wat i know.

The indexes correspond to the shrine/dungeon/small castle things dotted about the map. They generally have NPC's walking about outside and people inside who usually try to kill you. Falysmoron, Inydoran, kogun sound a little like some names (i hope).

Ok you have some indexes, now then go into one of the 12 or so places and you see a building outside. It should have glowing pillars inside it. they have names so if u have the falysmoron propylon index and the sign on one of the pillars says falysmoron then it will transport u there. I think you just need the index in your inventory then a right click, or the use button4 Xbox, on the pillar.

To find them i think there is a guy in the room with gentleman gim stacy in Vivec. He gives you clues to the whereabouts of the different indexes. Then when u have them all he gives u the master index so u dont need to carry all the others with u all the time.

Ok it is 1am here so a lot of this may be unclear or wrong :p so sorry, hope i helped.

They are a teleport system between the 10 Daedric stroneholds(Rotheran,Valenvaryon, Falasmaryon, Falensarano, Berandas, Andasreth, Hlormaren, Marandus, Telasero and Indoranyon) Each of them havea propylon chamber with 2 glowy devices with the names of 2 strongholds on them. If you have the propylon index for the stronghold named on one of the devices then you can teleport there. If you look on the map then they almost form a circle and the devices are the 2 strongholds on either side of the current stronghold in the 'circle'.

Also if you go to (www.elderscrolls.com) then you can download an official mod which adds the guy Irakaz was talking about.
