What are these for? I have heard a little about them from somewhere but not sure what they are in the game for.

They are just doorways to other Propylon chambers that are scattered throughout Morrowind . You must have the proper index (or key) to access the travel routes. I only ever found one key but have never used the thing since there are so many other ways to travel.

[SPOILER]The Propylon chambers can be used to travel around. Its like teleporting; each chamber has two propylons : one will teleport you to the next propylon chamber clockwise from it, the other counter-clockwise.
To be able to use them you need something called the Master Index.
To get that you need to do some errands for a mage in the Caldera Mage Guild.
IIRC, you also need the official patch for this Master Index to properly function. [/SPOILER]

Well, you don't need the master index, but it's got its uses. The various keys can be used instead, they're just hard to find on your own (that plugin practically leads you by the hand to each of 'em).

Well I did pick up a key on divayth fyrs table can remember which one but one key doesnt help very much

True, one doesn't, but if you can get all of 'em between Vivec and Dagon Fel then that one "oath of silence" quest for the Temple is a heckuvalot easier... and you can do that even on the XBox.
