The newest issue of PC Zone UK is carrying details of the first true Oblivion expansion pack, Shivering Isles:
The expansion will offer 30-plus hours of new adventuring, features new quests, monsters, expanded freeform gameplay - quest lines that branch more than before, for example - and a new land "that you can watch change according to your vital life-or-death decisions".
Setting the scene, it's explained that an ominous-looking gate has opened in Nibben Bay, the portal leading to a torn realm - the Shivering Isles - ruled by Sheogorath, the god of madness and dementia. Apparently, adventurers will meet the god and "plough through his trials", but it's additionally hinted that ultimately we may well be usurping the deity. A ETA of Q2 2007 has been given.
Pick up a copy at your nearest newsie for screenshots and further info, or save yourself six quid and wait for it all to be released online in the not too distant future.
Yay! A proper expansion :D

The thing I keep wondering is whether it will be compatible with the great mods I (we all) have installed. If not then I don't think getting the mod is worth it. :erg:

As long as the expansion doesn't make any sweeping changes to the core game, you shouldn't have many conflicts pop up. On the same note, don't expect your mods to work with the new stuff either.
Oh, and judging from the screenshots I saw, it looks like Golden Saints are back.

Interesting. I'll be watching for it. Glad to hear the Golden Saints are back. I had missed them whilst looking for something to trap in a sould gem. :thumb:

This is exactly what I've been waiting for. Now if only Spore would come out Q2 as well, I'd be the happiest man alive.

I am faintly amused by "New offical material must conform to mods" instead of "Mods must conform to new offical material" ;)

If its anything like Morrowind then the modmakers will update their creations accordingly, I should think.

Well - for quite a few people, the original game had major flaws that were solved by mods; other mods vastly improved the original game for them. I understand if people are wary of installing the expansion and losing many of the things they've come to like about non-vanilla Oblivion.

I don't think that was his point so much as being amused at the request that the official material not break the unofficial stuff, instead of the unofficial stuff being adapted afterwards. ;)

It seems toned down from what I hoped for (I mean, jesus, SHEOGORATH! I'd expect total insanity and hilarity) but it looks cool. Reminds me of some of the weirder parts of Morrowind, but in the Oblivion engine:
