I'm glad I saw but I almost walked out after the C-section<Olympic gymnast routine. W.T.F.

Saw it, liked it - major problems, but I liked it. Basically, Damon Lindlehof is a terrible writer and the monster designs are shit. And it is a monster-movie despite all the boiler-plate 'who am i' shit stuck in there. Get rid of lindlehof and for fucks sake get giger to do the monsters, idiots. Even with the shitty monsters, could be editing down a lot and be a lot better for it, too many actors, too little characters.
In my dream re-imagining of the film, young ridley scott travels through time to make Walter Hill and David Giler over-haul Lindlehofs retarded script and insists on Giger doing the creature designs. Prometheus strikes me as being a lot like Alien could have been before those two things happened.

You guys simply aren't happy with anything, anymore. It seems like modern culture holds everything to such ridiculous expectations. I watched Alien recently and while its still a great movie, I couldn't help but chuckle during the tunnels scare when the alien reaction was to go BOO! with his hands as if a little kid scaring his father. I watched Prometheus via torrent, split into three different cam rips depending on quality, and I still enjoyed it. I thought it was great. I watch you guys piddle over minutiae and criticize this and that, it's funny that we used to laugh at Tom Cruise for acting like his movies were saving the world however it seems as a culture this is what we somewhat expect. I for one am happy to see a movie in the Alien universe that doesn't cater to the AvP demographic. Seriously, arguing over the functionality of the super advanced medical machine cause a character said at some point that it was only for males? I found it stranger that she was walking around with the wound across her stomach held together by nothing but stitches. But hey, scifi right? NO. Lets argue. I'm not a doctor but I pretend to be one when it comes to sci-fi medical sciences. I feel equally bemused by the criticism to the new Batman movie, even though I haven't seen it myself. You guys rip these things apart as if they were Shakespeare.
Edit: I realize this is simply something subjective in that I probably do the same thing to other mediums of which I am passionate, however, I love movies. I am a huge movie buff. Its just that people enjoy the process of sitting around and mulling on details and discussing how it didnt fit their particular wants. I prefer to enjoy things for what they are. It seems like subjective criticism has changed its purpose over the years. Something to do with entitlement of the viewer.

I hear you.
Fwiw if you want to complain about Alien then ask yourself this. What do the damn things eat to grow so fast? And where is this water source that they are supping from to supply them with such a large amount of fluid flow? (Bio)logically it makes no sense whatsoever.

Well said Alchemist, well said.

They can eat metal and absorb energy directly from light or heat or electricity for all I care. It's alien biotech, it doesn't have to eat biomass just to make biomass. Terrestrial plants don't. Like I said, looked awesome, had no characters to speak of, had frequent total lapses in any kind of sensible motivation for what people did. I.E had shitty writing. Not splitting hairs over what the space science was wrong about or whatever, it just had major issues as a piece of cogent fiction regardless of the dressing. Not a terrible film, and a pretty amazingly spectacular one, but also not a narratively competent one.

Its problems are practically the definition of a terrible movie for me so I find it hard to understand how anyone can notice them and still enjoy it too.

Look, even if it's Ridley Scott his job is still to produce entertainment. Most sci-fi stuff requires you to take part of your brain out to enjoy them. I'd never have enjoyed watching Star Trek if I'd been worried about the concept of the Heisenberg Compensator sitting in the transporter.
If you are not entertained, watch something else...

Dude, I don't care about the heisenberg compensator either. Script, characters, narrative logic. I mean, the frisson of plausibility in the tech is nice, but it's not essential if the story works well enough. District 9 was full of hand-wavium but it was also a logically-plotted, tightly paced and exciting film. Star Trek was also good on that front - character arcs, decent structure, etc. Prometheus was full of just weird pacing, pointless characters, nonsensical and badly explained actions, bad dialogue. I'm not saying I thought that all of the bad points were because the space-scanners weren't the right color. The technical design was the main saving grave of the film. Are you arguing with someone else? Well, you're not actually arguing, you're literally saying just shut up and accept it, but you know what I mean.

Your opinion is wrong and you are wrong and you should shut up.
