SubjEff: I think the (linguistic) issue here is that some people use "entitlement" as shorthand for "false sense of entitlement" (which in effect is almost the opposite of "entitlement", i.e. "thinking you're entitled to something when you're not"). At least that's what I get from the Pyrian/Kolya exchange.

I know that, the detail is in the context. When I say "entitlement bs" I don't mean these people are actually entitled, but that they FEEL some misguided sense of entitlement and that it's bs.

I thought he was pointing out that the Film industry will blame pirates for lower than expected sales in Germany and use it to push for more legal action.
Its easier to just take what you want from an opinion and rather than discuss it, just start throwing out accusations and insults. Seems to be a recurring theme here.

I'll be living in Germany when it comes out, but there is no way in hell I'm watching it with a german dub. They literally seem to give the role to whoever walks in the door first.

Myself and a friend have laughed at the German dubs of Die Hard.
I was actually wondering if they'd get Michael Fassbender to dub his own stuff. Which reminded me of another story. Allegedly big Arnie wanted to dub his own vocals for the German release of the Terminator..1 or 2 w/e, but his accent is something rural, akin to Cornish English accents, so the death machine sent from the future would sound ridiculous.

But ... his accent in English sounds ridiculous. That's the whole point. Oh well... Maybe he's done it for other movies.
I got a kick out of some Japanese dubs while I was there. Just completely changes the personality sometimes, and even, because the culture is pretty different, they'll spin the conversations or jokes in different ways, like the emphasis or what's actually funny about it that makes them laugh. I guess it's not too different from watching dubbed anime and being a little bewildered sometimes why the characters are laughing or getting emotional.

Not only that, but after 40-odd years in Hollywood it's also heavily laden with an American accent on top, so he couldn't even act in an Austrian Heimatfilm with any credibility anymore. Arnie is in no better shape to speak high German than he is to speak standard AE.

I'll tell you the thing that I find a little annoying and that's the confusion of theft with infringement. If you think about it, you can't actually "steal" a film, because the act of making a digital copy does nothing to the original. Where the wallet analogy falls down is in the fact that you can't make a copy of a wallet, leaving the original in the car.
My reading of the feeling is that it's frustrating to see big media companies put resources into trying to sue a couple of major file sharers when they could do something much simpler to prevent most of the inevitable infringement. What happens is that legitimate customers get treated with little consideration and piracy is unaffected. Basically what the big media companies are interested in is making money and not culture, so whether customers get decent service is irrelevant to them.

I find it annoying how some people think they have dominion over the word "entitlement".
One question which I find doesn't get answered by this discussion though - WHY have staggered release dates at all?
