We all pretty much know that Deus Ex:Clan Wars was released under the label "Project: Snowblind". I recently completed that game (Opera House mission is amazing), and began wondering just where would P:S fit the continuity if it was canon.
The technology is pretty consistent with the rest of the games, the Republic gunship having much in common with Jock's black bird, the weapons being the transitional phase in the change to fully adaptable nanite ammunition...
Thoughts?

I think you meant to say that Project: Snowblind was very briefly in development under the working title "Deus Ex: Clan Wars".

Given the similarity to Deus Ex and the prevalent aestheticI beg to differ it was "brief".

I just now bought this game for X-Box. Haven't played enough to comment on the thread topic, but it is an interesting game.
[edit] WOW, this is one of the best console-based, action FPS's I have ever played. Very fun. I have caught myself reloading levels to try alternate methods of clearing them.

Is the PC version a decent port?
gunsmoke on 18/12/2007 at 13:29
I can't comment on the port, but if you have a PS2 or XBOX you cannot miss this one. It just OOZES w/Deus Ex. It is actually a lot more fun and much better realized than Invisible War. The shooting mechanics are tight, there are TONS of interesting, imaginitive weapons(including a Gravity Gun!!!). Has semi-realistic physics w/out going overboard (ie:shitty ragdolls).
You get to pilot cars and even a bi-pedal mech!!! Kinda like driving a HUGE security bot from IW.
Regarding the DX connection...the fact that it takes place in Hong Kong is awesome. It reminds me of one of my favorite sections in the original. There are Bio-augs, repair/health bots, those silver and blue bio-rechargers, emp, gas, frag grenades, alt- fire modes that are useful, and a useful as FUCK tracker to guide you to your next obj. Guess what...it's toggleable!!! Awesome if you get stuck/lost but unobtrusive if you aren't.
HIGHLY recomended as it's $4.99 @ GameStop/EB.

Sounds cool Gunsmoke, cheers for the post. (Also thanks to Alai for linking the video review.) I'll see if I can track down the PC version. Crystal Dynamics have a decent track record of good PC ports to console ports, so hopefully it should be fine.

I just can't stop playing (I am posting as I take breaks).
First a disclaimer. I am 1st and foremost a PC gamer. I own a couple consoles (XBOX and an N64), but really only play them occasionally. I only have the XBOX because my gf's friend at work gave us one for my birthday this year. I am going to make a BOLD statement here regarding Project:Snowblind...it is the absolute MOST FUN (not the BEST, not the most PERFECT)but the MOST FUN game I have played on a console in years. Period. It is just an exciting game. I have been slow-going at it primarily because I keep re-loading levels and playing them in different ways. I may try it w/out bio-augs, maybe avoid as many enemies/traps as possible w/stealth and hacking, go all aggressive and run-and-gun, or just do some extensive exploration and try to find all the secret areas/stashes/paths/angles of engagement in a level.
I have never been more pleasantly surprised in an FPS. They have become so predictable and by-the-numbers as of late. I have really become jaded and bored w/the genre as a whole in the last year. This game has not only renewed my faith in the console FPS genre, but given me hope than EIDOS can succeed at Deus Ex 3. Maybe it is a good thing that the DX reigns have been handed over to a fresh team. This game proves that there is room for some new ideas and approaches to the DX world. I can only fantasize about what this game would have been if they hadn't had dropped the DX monicker, and continued developing it in the DX universe. I think it would not only have been a worthy addition, but made Invisible War look all that much less deserving of the DX name.
Remember one thing as you consider this endorsement; I approach PC and console games differently and, subsequently, my expectations between the two will differ as well. DX is one of my favorite 1st-person games of all time, but I hated playing it on PS2. I loved Red Faction on PS2...hated it on PC. *shrugs*. Different games, IMHO, are just a better experience on different platforms (kicking back on a couch, or nose to the monitor w/headphones on). That being said, I cannot guarantee that I would have had the same level of enjoyment w/it on my notebook or desktop.
As for the negatives on Pr. Snw...there are a few minor ones. Taking into consideration the game is 2 1/2 years old and developed for both the PS2 and XBOX simultaneously, it looks great. I do, however, see the PS2's limitations showing through. The textures are a bit lower resolution than XBOX exclusives, and the poly count on certain items can be a bit low. When the main character is moving, he makes some jingling/footstep/etc. noises. Only problem is that they only come out of the left speaker. Sort of odd. Other than that minor quibble, the sound is spot-on. The difficulty could also stand to be cranked up a bit, as well. Being a bio-augmented super-soldier grants your character versatility, but offsetting this is the fact that you are also nearly invinceable if you fully utilize your environment, equipment, intel, and abilities. Once you master their usage, you may find yourself playing w/self-imposed limitations to make the game more challenging and/or interesting in parts. I also feel obligated to mention the controls. This game, by nature, has complicated controls and they are only exaggerated by the hectic fire fights. I assume they would be a LOT more user-friendly on PC. That said, there is a Metal Gear:Solid-type feature they implemented allowing you to hold down the white button, it pauses the action and allows you to select a weapon, aug, and/or a secondary weapon like grenades at your leisure. You don't have to do this, you can always select them on-the-fly, and simply tapping the white key allows you to switch between 2 weapons (basically functions like the last weapon used (Q by default( in the original Half-Life).
That being said, the graphics are incredible. There is liberal light 'bloom' effects, and reflect/refract-ive shaders coat nearly every expected surface w/out being 'overdone'. The fire, explosion, bio-aug, weapons-fire, etc. effects are top notch, w/special mentions going out to the lightning (from both an energy weapon and an aug) and cloaking effects. The HUD is extremely useful w/out being intrusive. There is a TON of info on screen, but it is so well designed that you never find it annoying or in the way. Select/back button toggles a very useful mission objective locator that guarantees you will never become stuck, confused or lost. I found myself flicking it on a couple times, and was damn glad it was there when I did. ONE AWESOME FEATURE: I mean awesome is the detonate button. You can throw a grenade (black button)and let it detonate on it;s own, or you can press the black button after releasing the 'nade and detonate it exactly when you want. I like to throw one in the middle of a crowd at head level and detonate it in mid-air...taking out the whole group. Since the AI will very effectively run from 'nades, this is an excellent way to catch them unaware. They don't have time to react, really. : ) They story is also very interesting to me. I was just as interested in completing a level for the progression of the story as I was to simply progress to a new area.
Well, that went on MUCH longer than I planned, but summed up all I wanted to say. I really hope anyone who reads this can now make an informed decision about whether or not this game is for them. Enjoy, and of you have any further questions about the game, just post.

Oh, goody.
