On progarchives there are alot of bands that aren't prog, but just that they had some little influence.

Or maybe it's just music for magicians to saw women in half to. :(
EDIT: Surprised not to see Gerry Rafferty in those archives.

Well at least we agree that James Labia is a terrible vocalist. I cannot listen to Dream Theater because of him.
He's not easy to listen to, but since Train of Thought, I think he's gotten much better. They've been experimenting with vocal effects lately and he's singing in a lower register. There's still something distinctly 80's about him. Portnoy seems to be trying to take the edge off it by helping out as well. There's definitely something changing about the way they approach vocals on the last 2 albums at least.

Damn! Adobe doesn't permit the flash download, there is a problem now, since YouTube required to upgrade to the latest Flash version ://
I was curious to listen the two last songs, if it's true that Labrie changed tonality....

OK, this doesn't seems prog at all to me, it seems what I played ten years ago. LOL Uh, I noticed just now the variations of the voice in the riffs: evidently stolen from Marilyn Manson.
Let's hear the second song:
LOL!! James Hetfield! hahahah No, jokes apart. This song is copied from Metallica. Also the Labrie's look seems Hetfield.

...you never noticed before that they sound like Metallica?

No. Excuse me, but I don't follow them anymore, since Derek Sherinian was out. Their best album, imo, remains, despite of what the majority says, "Falling Into Infinity", because is more pop-oriented than the others. I remember that they also made their first apparition on MTV here in Italy in that period, that's because they were at the peak of their businness success. After the Sherinian's defection they oriented in another style, less hearable.

Weird. Metallica is a huge influence of theirs. In terms of musicianship, DT is in a whole 'nother class though.

I prefer DT, DT, and DT.
