Porcupine Tree, Oceansize (though similar to many post rock bands except for more discipline), and dredg; in general I'm more for a broad interpretation of progressive music. I never got into Pink Floyd, though, at least yet. The modern prog bands seem a bit more immersive to me.

I remember when I first heard the strains of Spirit of the Age drifting across the gardens in Bournemouth, I was captivated and the hairs on the back of my neck have never really settled. (I've even got a verse tattooed on my arm, yes I know I'm a dick but so what!).
So for me it's Hawkwind and some of the other (lesser known?) Space Rock bands, particularly Here and Now. If you haven't heard the album Give and Take you really are missing out. And of course Gong.
I would also include The Ozric Tentacles, Spaceman 3 and Spiritualized all of which I guess you could put in the post genre category.

Soilwork
post-90's Winger/Kip Winger
...and Maiden, Queensryche, Testament, Living Color, and Fishbone - though these aren't technically "prog" they blend genres like most prog bands and can play their asses off.
Never been able to get into Floyd, King Crimson, Genesis, Opeth, or the Flower Kings. I like most Tool but hated the last album.
Wow, that's a lot of stuff! But you seem oriented more on metal here.

I do feel that both Camel and Symphony X need to be mentioned too. So there. ;I
massimilianogoi on 13/4/2010 at 07:20
Agree. Simphony X are a great band, even if the last albums presents some lackings.
Anyway, here's the Seluah's official page:

you cant be calling symphony x prog-rock dude.
massimilianogoi on 13/4/2010 at 07:45
Yeah, they do more metal, but if it's like that, then many bands named by fett would not be appropriated.
The Scots drunkard trying to make Gabriel, worth to see:

In the recent years I've been especially in love with King Crimson's Red (1974) as well as Camel's Music Inspired by The Snow Goose (1975), the former packing into one album the culminating efforts of a matured generation of progressive rock and the latter being a romantic masterpiece of harmony between traditional rock and classical instruments and compositions.
Both I heartily recommend.

As far as I remember, Red is quite hard to listen :erg: (meaning very complex)
