Thrash metal is now prog? Shit, who knew?
As usual, we tend to LABEL a band for any songs they have made. In this case I meant prog this only song. Listen it, dethtoll, and after tell me if isn't progressive rock.

...These guys had no soul, but they could play fast, complicated stuff...
:wot: I hope I have not understood right... If you meant that progressive rocker were without soul, but they played very fast, then you make a big, BIG mistake, pal! This is the aberration of the though brought by shit bands like Dream Theater. Who preferred making eight thousands notes instead of concentrating on beautifuly melodies, and from here the common (wrong) sense that progressive rock is without soul. Try to listen Genesis's "Supper's Ready", or Marillion's "Cinderella's Search", and you will get a whole different idea.

Funny that you inserted them. In facts, pieces like "Fear Of The Dark" or A"fraid To Shoot Stranger" comprehends alot of ryhtm variations, but we still can't call this progressive rock, that's a good paradox.

Yeah, you misunderstood. I wasn't talking about genuine, purposeful prog bands like Genesis or Marrillion, who are both technically proficient and melodic. I meant that the average metal band in the 80's or early 90's were much, much better musicians than the average metal/rock band today. In that sense, bands like Maiden, Queensryche, or Testament might be considered "prog" by people who don't know better, simply because they play more technically complicated music than most current metal bands (possible exceptions Mutiny Within, Soilwork, etc.)
Vae - I like your list :thumb:

I've heard the song a hundred times- I like early Metallica, remember? It's thrash. It's unusually complex thrash for Metallica, but it's still thrash. That doesn't make it a BAD song- it's one of Metallica's best.
