Programs not appearing in right-click context menu... - by thief0

ok, I have a weird problem. I have ZipGenius installed, but whenever I right-click on a file or folder, I do not have a ZipGenius option that allows me to quickly zip up that file or folder. This is very inconvenient. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem still occurs. I have tried 7zip, but the problem occurs with that as well.
Now, here's the thing. If I download a file and click "Open Folder", then whenever I right-click on a file in the opened folder, ZipGenius does appear. However, now, some other program(s) don't show up. For example, I can normally right-click on any file and see the option "Scan with Avira Anti-Virus". However, I can't see this option on a file in a folder which I've opened after downloading something.
I hope you guys can understand the problem; it's just so strange. What's going on? And what is this problem even related to... does it have to do with Windows registry settings?
By the way, I'm using a refurbished HP Laptop with Win Vista 64-bit.

The problem is because you are using a 64-bit version of Windows. A 32-bit program, such as Winzip and most people's 7Zip, will work fine but cannot integrate with the Windows Shell system. You need a 64-bit version of the program to do that.
Try downloading the 64-bit version of 7-Zip and see if you get the options when you right-click on a file.

Ah, I see. The 64-bit 7zip works fine, thanks!
It's just that if I "Open Folder" after downloading something, then the 7zip option doesn't appear in the right-click menu and ZipGenius does, but that's ok, it's not a big deal.
But I'm curious, how come the "Open Folder" method makes a difference? Why does it cause a difference in the right-click context menu?

Maybe, try opening it with the 64-bit version of IE (I don't think there is a 64-bit version of Firefox).
