Yeah, well that's the other side of the coin isn't it - if you need auto-health then it implies you're getting so blasted to fuck that you don't have time to bleed.

Auto-heal is not necessarily a problem in itself, it was great for a game like Portal. Will Deus Ex 3 be a puzzle game?
Damn I frustrated with all this dumbing down to make sure the last idiot can finish the game! Could game developers stop thinking about morons when they design their game?

Generally in auto-heal games though (other than Halo, where it makes sense in context), the player has very little health, so as soon you get under fire, you better get out quick. In CoD4 it keeps the tension high without resorting to constant reloading. If the Deus Ex team can balance it like that, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
I mean, as long as we're complaining about realism, why not complain about the fact that, with regular health-systems, you're in perfect shape until the instant you die? Or the fact that by ingesting medical supplies (or chips!) you're good as new! Neither is ideal, but I know which is more fun.

Yes, but it was much more discrete and had less of them on jc and paul.
IIRC, JC and Paul were cloned from Simons with the nanotech being present in their systems from "birth." Simons had the nanotech infused as an adult, so it affected his outward appearance more.
And as for the "too sleek" and "too clean" arguments. As has been pointed out elsewhere, DX1 takes place after a second Civil War in the States, and with the world in the grip of an engineered plague. It would make sense for the mechanical augs to take a function-before-form design approach when they're being developed for almost immediate frontline use by soldiers and law enforcement. Same for the overall world aesthetic: world hasn't gone to shit yet, so things can be neat and clean, and there's even time for Ren-punk clothing styles. World goes to shit -> clothing and technology becomes more utilitarian in design -> everything else turns grimy and shit.

Sure, if you play DX3 wanting to be Doc Oc. I mean, what the fuck? Seriously? That's ridiculous
Ridiculously AWESOME. I'm totally playing as super-stealth Dr. RoboCoptopus (new band name!) in my first playthrough.

I don't see anyone talking about realism and everyone talking about design and game mechanics.

Actually one of the things that made the bio-augs cool in the original Deus Ex was the "less-is-more" approach, which was more realistic and more intuitive for the player to manage. For example, the leg muscle augmentation A) increased running speed B) decreased falling damage and C) allowed higher jumps.

In the original Deus Ex, damage that was localized effected your performance. Being shot in the leg(s) made you run slower, getting shot in the arm could make you drop your weapon, and being shot in the head made you aim worse, among other effects.

Now you'll be able to kick through walls with your POWER LEGS.
