But anyway, from the concept art and all, it seems that the augmented person looks almost like a nano - augmented person and doesn't really look like mechanical augmented at all. In fact it was said in deus ex that society feared mechanically augmented people and that they were sort of outcasts, which is why only a few people would go to the lengths to have the augmentations done. I think anna might even talk to you briefly about it at one point.
What I've seen of the art shows mech augs that are really visible, only the hand thing seems to be concealable in some way... I really like the direction they're going to btw, the so-called "cyber-renaissance" theme is extremely sleek.

Also, if simons is nano augmented, which he appears to be, why does he look "less normal" than either jc or paul, with all the wiring or whatever it is visible on his face. Or is this explained later in the game?
IIRC he had the full treatment and then some, plus he kept all his mods at 100% charge at all times, it's possible that it ended up affecting his appearance (As I recall, the doc even tells him it's bad, right?)

There's also the whole theory about Paul having a unique immune system that was nanotech tolerant (so unique they cloned him to get another one). Simons on the other hand has to do something to himself and his immunesystem to get some benefit from the nanotech and also stop dying of grey death, and whatever it was it makes him one ugly son of a bitch.
It's kinda a nice theory, anyway.

Well what i saw is the hand thing as you say, and the face that looks pretty normal, just with some kind of stitching. There is nothing half robotic, almost terminator style like gunther and anna were is what I meant. While it looks nice, it doesn't really fit in with the first games take on things. The mechanical augs should look very obvious and almost "half robot". Instead, they seem to be trying to make the mechanical augmentations discrete, much how the nano-augs were trying to be in the original.
If anyone has any pictures to show me what they mean it pm them or something cos I probably haven't seen most of it :)

Interestingly, and perhaps...idiotically, they ONLY do this if they're already looking for you. If you haven't actually alerted the guards yet, they will be utterly, utterly oblivious to a mystery torchbeam shining out of an airvent (or whatever). As soon as you're rumbled, though, that beam will drag them to you pretty damn quickly.
Although your post seems very knowledgable I know this last bit is incorrect as earlier today I was playing around with it. In the Naval base I was crouched some distance away from a soldier who was on his patrol, walking away from me, not searching for me. I activated the light aug and shone it on the floor, moving it towards him. When it hit him, he turned around and then ran towards me.

Maybe we see the mech augs get more advanced and disfigured as time passes?

All nano augs have those wiring on their face. JC had them, Paul had then, and WS had them.
And I've already mentioned the mech aug thing. It was never suppose to look clonky like a "half robot," just less advanced than the sleek cybernetics from Ghost in the Shell. One pic showed an embedded weapon, which is something new, cus Gunther really bitched about having to draw his gun.
Other than that, it's all good.

I just doublechecked, and you are indeed correct. There are quite a few states where they do blithely ignore beams, but patrolling is not one of them.
That'll teach me to try and be clever.. :p

On the contrary, it was a very good post, thank you for putting the effort into it!

Yes, but it was much more discrete and had less of them on jc and paul.

But gunther and anna clearly do
Also yes, thanks DDL, now we don't have to listen to any more carryings on about "the light doesn't make any difference" :cheeky:

On the big talking points:
Quote:
Perhaps controversially this time around combat won't be influenced by stats, but will rely purely on your personal marksmanship skills. Instead stats will influence "a vast array of fully upgradeable and customisable weapons", and you'll be able to tailor your arsenal to your play style with mag upgrades, scopes and other add-ons.
This sounds okay in theory. I never liked how standing right next to someone and shooting at them with a tranq dart gun, I'd only hit 1/3 times if I had a low shooting skill stat because it's supposed to be a sensible hybrid of FPS and RPG and I'M STANDING RIGHT IN FUCKING FRONT OF THE PERSON.
SS2 didn't have this same problem, however it did have the issue that you couldn't figure out how to pull the trigger of a certain weapon if you didn't have the appropriate skill level. I'm not sure which is the lesser of the two RPG evils.
Quote:
What's more, stealth will now rely on a cover system rather than shadows, and damage will be dealt with by a very Call of Duty-style auto-heal. There's probably going to be some debate over those two.
Someone clarify for me how the CoD-style auto-heal works? I'm having trouble visualising a game where I don't have to use a medkit or some variant in order to regain health.
The stealth-system will be a success or failure based purely on implementation. I'm not a person who's against third-person for first-person perspective's sake if the design is executed flawlessly and makes sense in the context of the game. These sort of immersion versus design issues are always tough to balance though, so I'm skeptical.

Augmentations have been bumped up and sound fantastic. 20 have been promised for the final game, ranging from 'bungee jump' tentacles that shoot from your back and anchor to a wall when you jump off a building, and the ability to punch through walls to grab enemies in neighbouring rooms.
Sure, if you play DX3 wanting to be Doc Oc. I mean, what the fuck? Seriously? That's ridiculous.
I should probably clarify that I look forward to seeing what becomes of DX3 as a person who really enjoyed DX first time through but has struggled to enjoy the game on repeat attempts (much less complete it), and couldn't even get through half of DX:IW. I'm probably less a die-hard DX fan and more of a casual fan who hopes for similar levels of sophistry in design but this news doesn't exactly fire me up.

In CoD2 at least I think it works like this - you have finite energy so sustained hits will kill you. But if you are getting shot up an manage to get into cover your health repairs itself whilst you are not being hit. Like Master Chief's shield. Or something.
Personally I think it's a silly system UNLESS the game is as hard as CoD2 on the hardest difficulty. It think it's just called "You will die", and whilst you do there is nothing too insanely tough about it.
Takes hella balancing to get his right and in the context of a DX game it makes no sense. It's not a shooter afterall. Is it? :eww:
