If there wasn't a word for procrastination it would just be termed lazy. I once read a theory of procrastination that the problem is cause by reaching a comfort zone and staying in it as long as possible, the perceived burden of any task getting constantly played out in the mind instead of actually being done, and that this is actually wearing and so a vicious cycle of putting of the work until later, until you are fit and ready to tackle it properly, starts and the task becomes more and more problematic as you have less and less time to tackle it, still wearing yourself down by the task constantly playing on your mind so you can't really relax. It is also a defence mechanism to preserve a self image of greatness, that you could have done that essay perfectly if you “did it properly” or if you “had the time to do it”, the thing that is difficult to learn is that getting it done is more important than any theoretical prefect essay that you “could” write. If you give enough time to the essay then you can write it and then eventually modify it till it is seemly perfect - that is how a perfect essay is constructed - it is not a theoretical possibility “if only” I did this and this, cause in cold harsh reality you didn't and so you handed in a rushed piece of rubbish, or as my problem is - you didn't even hand it in.
