Problems installing Oblivion. - by Andaroo

I used to play Oblivion frequently. When I updated my computer to Windows XP, I went to install it. Midway through the process, I had to leave my house for the weekend so I wanted to shut down my computer. So as I do, I shut down all my windows first, including the Oblivion Installer. Next time I went to install it, I was confused as to why it said Oblivion was already installed. I went to play it, but an error message appeared saying that it was corrupted, blah blah, reinstall. It made sense, so I went to uninstall it, but it produced an error message saying that the uninstaller could not work. I went Remove Programs, but Oblivion was not there. So I set down to manually delete every Oblivion file on my computer, but still, no such luck. Here is what the error message reads when I attempt to uninstall via the window that appears by inserting the Oblivion disk.

<Insert 'OK' button here.>
Pressing the okay button then tells you to try close all windows, check your internet connection if it is web based and to empty your temporary folder. I have done all the following.
I seriously have no idea what to do, I honestly don't even care about playing the game anymore, I just want to know how to get it off my computer! Any help at all would be appreciated. :erg:

You'll probably have to hunt down and remove its entries in the registry.

Right, right that would make sense. Thanks for the suggestion.
Ermm... Sorry to trouble you again, but, could you be as so kind to tell me how to do that?

Via Regedit? Usual warnings about being careful when messing with the registry as it could wreck your computer apply.

I don't know if this will help you but try re installing it then uninstalling again, and
delete the oblivion file in My Documents- You might want to do this first, then install it.
My documents/ My Games/ Oblivion <----- Delete

Also, run the setup program directly instead of using the autoplay loader panel.

Hmm, sounds good. Thanks for the help guys, I'll get right on it. Refusing a social life to prosper in a virtual game, here I come! :thumb: Jokes aside, really, thanks for the advice.
