I just recently purchased UWI pocket pc version from a seller on Amazon.com to run on a windows mobile 5.0 device. The game plays great until I get to the mines on level 2 and encounter the gazer. Once it begins to attack, the game shuts down completely and returns me to the "today" screen on the device. The game is no longer running when I check in the running programs section of the device. There is no error message either. Very strange. Unfortunately, I think I need to kill that gazer to eventually win the game, so I can't just skip on. Does anyone know a solution to this challenge? Zio Interactive, the maker of the pocket pc version of UWI only has a Korean website that I have not been able to navigate, nor have I found a way to contact customer support there. I have an older device that runs an older version of windows, but not a mobile version. I successfully installed the game on that device, and the exact same thing occurred. I feel like it is a bug with the software. I have not been able to find any patches for the PPC version. I only paid $7 for the game, which actually is an original, but since it is a great game, I would like to finish it. Any assistance is this matter would be great!

Unfortunately, I'm still yet to play the PPC port of UW. I'm not sure of Hongsuk Lee's direct email address but you should be able to obtain some sort of support via info@zio.co.kr.

Just waiting now for response--I'm sure they get tons of emails. Thanks for the reply and the lead!

No worries.
B.t.w. If you find a fix, please let us know in case anyone has that same issue here again.

I downloaded UUI for the PC (now freeware per several sites), ran the sircabaris patch to get UUI to run in Win XP, and changed my memory setting to get it to run in command prompt, which got the game running. Several websites helped me out with this which I found with a basic web search. I copied my save folders from Pocket PC to the UUI folder on the PC, reran the game, and was able to run from my copied savegames. I have yet to defeat the gazer--only a matter of a little more experience and better stuff--but I can fight him without the game crashing. In theory, after killing the gazer, I should be able to recopy the savegame back to the Pocket PC and continue on as normal. I will use this approach again if the PPC version gives me any other challenges. BTW, I have yet to hear back from Zio support after 1 week, but if they send me a patch or similar later on, I will post the details again here. Thanks again for all the help!

Great to know that the versions are save-game compatible! Thanks :)

The Gazer is a rather tough foe by that stage in the game. The way that I have defeated it when I have been relatively weak has been to charge up a melee attack, move in close, get a couple of hits and then run for it; heal (if needed) and repeat.)

I was actually able to revert to a previous saved game and continue on without the game crashing. Very strange. Every now and then, it crashes at random points with no pattern, but reverting back to a prior saved game seems to correct each time. I'm now on level 7, just started it. On level 4, I actually could not get my PPC version to view the knights gravestones for the clue to the golden plate door, silver and gold switches. I found some website with pictures of the closeups of the graves that I was able to use to open the door, but I hated having to cheat. Also, I could not figure out how to burn and use insence, even with the mages' descriptions on level 6. I viewed a walkthrough's instructions for using insence, but still unable to light it. I had to pull these pictures/visions again from the website. The mantra did not give me any guidance at the shrine, so I went to the gazer spot on level 3 where I thought the Cup of Wonder falls down from when I played UU1 ~15 years ago. The flute tune worked, I got the Cup, but again, I felt like I was shortcutting and cheating. I may still not be doing the right thing with the insence, but I think I've tried every way to use it. I'm concerned the PPC version may not be complete, but at least I'm able to progress through the game. Enough rambling for now. Looking forward to confronting Tyball...
Thanks everyone for your input!

This really sounds like the makers of the PocketPC version really didn't playtest the thing beyond making sure the game ran on their ported engine.
