Hey all
I've loved the Thief series for a number of years and rate them so highly because of the replay value.
Recently, I wanted to revisit the very first game, so I booted it up and found it wouldn't run on my Vista desktop. I did the usual search for help and patches, etc and came across the TFix file, which I duly installed.
The game now runs but not very well. Some of the wall textures are just plain blue, like a blue screen set in a movie studio, but I can live with that. The worst part of it is that I can't use anything: not a sausage :erg:
I can select the different weapons, but they won't actually "go into" my hand, ie they don't appear and I can't hit anything. Similarly, I can't "use" the well doors in the very first mission, so I can creep around and I can even nick the keys off the drunk guard, but I can't do anything after that ...
Can anyone help me ?? I've installed TFix 3 times now - the latest version, then the previous one, then the latest one again, and all with clean installs of the game itself, but all to no avail ...
:(

If you installed the game in Program Files, Vista might have prevented some files being created (thanks to User Account Control), or there may simply be access problems, so try reinstalling to a folder outside Program Files.

Actually, the file is located outside Program Files, directly on the C: drive.
I disabled UAC yonks ago too, so it can't be either of those reasons, but thanks for replying.
Any more for any more ??

blue walls indicate that the crfs are not where they should be. make sure you start with a fresh, clean install of thief. after patching, there should be 12 crf files in the RES folder.

check your thief folder for any leftover crf files (especially fam.crf), and if found, move them to the RES folder. from what source did you install the game? make sure to do a full install if this is some old cd.
