I have this problem using Terra Nova, and
I hope I can get some help from someone
here.
I didn't had any problems installing or
playing the film introductions for the
game but once I get to the screen where
I can start a new game or create a custom
mission the following happens.
If I choose to start a new game, I see the
movie but when I should start the game, my
monitor goes to stand-by mode.
If I choose to create a custom mission, I
ca go through the screens for customizing
the location, squad-mates, etc, but as soon
as the mission is supposed to start, the
monitor goes to stand-by mode.
I have tried many things: installing both
under DOS and Windows (in a DOS window),
disabling the sound, using the univdb driver,
doing a full install, no matter what I did
I got the same result.
So now I am pretty sure it has something to
do with the video mode in which the game
runs. I have an ATI @play 98 with 8MB and
a Tatung C7B monitor. I tried the demo and
I get the same result.
I am thinking that one of the two video
modes in which the game runs (320x200
and 320x400 if I am not wrong) is somehow
incompatible with my hardware but I can't
toggle between them because the options menu
can be only called in-game and at that point
I don't see a thing.
BTW, the game works, I can hear the sounds
of the game but not seeing anthing makes it
a very tantalizing experience.
If anyone had this problem before or has
some ideas of what I should do or not do,
please let me know.

When you say the monitor goes into standby mode, you mean the entire screen is black, right?
This is certainly a function of the video card, not the monitor. I had an ATI card and it gave me numerous problems. Are you planning to upgrade anytime soon?

No, I don't plan to upgrade any time soon.
Actually I didn't had any problems with
any game other than TN. SS2, AvP, UT are
all running fine with this card.
It may be something with the specific video
mode they're using. 320x200. I've tested it
with the ATI card utility and also with a
VESATEST program from ATI which gives:
____________________________________________
The loaded VESA BIOS EXTENSION supports these modes on your card and monitor:
320 x 200 32K Colors (5:5:5) (Graphics Mode 10Dh)
320 x 200 64K Colors (5:6:5) (Graphics Mode 10Eh)
320 x 200 16.8M Colors (8:8:8) (Graphics Mode 10Fh)
<--- deleted all other higher resolutions-->
_____________________________________________
Maybe it doesn't support 320x200 with 16
or 256 colors, whatever the game is using?
The guy from LG customer support finally
gave up trying to help so my last chance
is to hear from someone who might have had
the same problem.
I get the same problem with the TN demo
so it is definitely something related to
the game.
The other game from LG, SS, runs fine so
I really don't know what's going on. What
really annoys me is that after I saw the
introduction I would really like to play
the game.

Well, unfortunately, I have a Viewsonic monitor and a GeForce 2 and I get this very same problem. The installation worked fine, but when I run tn.bat, the monitor goes on standby mode, as if the resolution/refresh rate isn't supported. Any ideas at all?

Have you tried
tn.bat + badlinmodes
??

No I haven't yet (CD is in my old computer where it works. Win98 there, too, so it will run without being bitchy. This is WinME)
Is there a list of the command lines anywhere? I'd love to see it.
