So I've just installed a new motherboard/processor/memory in a friends computer.
Specs:
AMD 6000+ processor (dual core)
MSI KA 780G Motherboard
Corsair 2 GB DDR2 800 RAM
(2) Seagate 320 GB drives
The MSI motherboard has an onboard RAID controller. I've followed all guidance in the tech manual, and from various internet sources.
When I go to install Windows XP Home, it gives me the usual "Hit F6 to specify additional SCSI/RAID controllers" and I have the official drivers from MSI on a floppy. It chugs along for a second and says, "ahcix64.sys is corrupted" and quits the installation program. I've tried the drivers that come on the CD with the motherboard. I've tried the drivers that I downloaded from MSI directly. I've tried 3rd party hosts of the 7xx RAID drivers this board apparently uses. I've tried nLite to slipstream the drivers, and I get the same results as the floppy.
I'm hoping someone here has run into this "ahcix64.sys is corrupted" problem and can help me out.
Right now, I just changed his drives to singular, and I'm installing Windows without any problem on one of the drives. He was just stoked about having RAID though, because it really is that much faster.
EDIT- Do the files with x64 involvement only apply to WinXP 64 bit installations? I think that may be my problem. I was thinking x64 files were for AMD and x86 files were for Intel. Am I rite? Hmm, burning a CD right now with x86 files on there and left off the x64 stuff. We'll see soon.
Looks like that didn't work. Take a look at the OEM thing to help me out.

I've put those drivers on a floppy dozens of times, and slipstreamed it to a CD about 10 times. Not working!

Ok...hmmm
can you check if there is a SATA compatability mode in the bios..?

No SATA comp mode.
3 choices for SATA controller:
1. IDE - No RAID setup possible. Just different drives available.
2. RAID - What we're trying to do here.
3. AHCI - Seems to end up with the same errors as the RAID setup.

Put them on a floppy and F6'ed it when starting. It asks which driver I want x86 or x64 platform. I assume we're talking x86 is 32 bit Windows, and x64 is 64 bit Windows?
EDIT
This didn't work. says "file \x86\ahcix86.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."
or it says for the x64
"file \x64\ahcix64.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2113 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."

Problem solved!
I used the official drivers again, and hit F6 during install. The first time, it stuttered and locked up. Then I rebooted, and it worked when I selected the x86 drivers.
Stranger things have happened. Thanks for your research BikerDude! I tried the newer drivers, but they didn't work. The older ones from MSI suddenly started working.
You know, I'm thinking maybe this guy's floppy drive was dirty and couldn't get the info from the disc? Who knows? Anyway, I'm so glad it's working now.

That was gonna be my next suggestion, bloody floppy drive and dodgy discs... :cheeky:
