Hello taffers and tafferettes,
I recently purchased Thief 3 and attempted to install the v.1.1 patch. However, I get this error message:
Quote:
Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match.
Any suggestions? I followed the instructions for downloading the patch to my desktop and unzipping it there. I also unzipped the file and moved it to the Thief folder, but still no luck.
For your general information, I run Windows Vista 64-bit on a Pentium Quad-core processor, but have gotten the game to work by adjusting the compatibility mode to Windows XP (service pack 2).
Thanks for your help.

seems like to me you are either using a Torrent or using a no cd crack with your own copy of the game. Either way, use your old T3.exe file again and it should patch fine.

The patch doesn't touch T3.exe. You have a corrupt file somewhere in your install.
Do you have any mods/unofficial patches/texture packs installed?

i just tried using a no cd crack and patching. I got that exact same error message. sounds like i was right

Do it without the no-cd crack. Most of them out there are fake.

I have not installed any other mods or patches to the game. All I have is the original cd. What do you think the problem could be?
mudi on 11/10/2009 at 19:55
Uninstall, reinstall FRESH, don't install any mods or cracks or anything. Run the patch.
If it still doesn't work, either the data on the CD is corrupt or you have some malware modifying game files (highly unlikely).

I have installed and uninstalled the game many times without adding mods or cracks, so it must be the cd. It seems I will have to get a refund or replacement, no?
Also, how is it the game could be at fault? How is it during the manufacturing that I happen to get a bad disc?
The thing is that I did modify the default.ini file for better gameplay, but I had completely uninstalled the program and reinstalled it again, numerous times. Yet I have the same problem. I think I will try a replacement and see if that does it, unless you have other suggestions.
Thanks for your help.

Umm. Make sure any modified files are DELETED between uninstall and reinstall.
Sometimes the uninstaller doesn't take out modified files.

Once it is uninstalled. Find every folder in the Documents (save files) and the original install area, including the folder put in the PROGRAM LIST that has to do with TDS and manually DELETE them.
As Mudi says, any modified files will not be seen and removed by the unistall application.
