Hi there
Unlike Thief 1 I'm unable to install Thief 2 on my System:
AMD Phenom Quad
4 Gig Ram
Radeon 4870
Windows 7 64
When I try to install nothing happens until the part where it loads the installer. The loadingscreen pop up, stays at 0% and the disappears again.
I tried it with setup.exe -lgntforce and also as administrator aswell as just klicking the setup file.
Tried copying it to my PC and starting it from there etc. but nothing helped.
In the taskmanager the installation processes are still listet but I've been waiting nor for about 10 hours but it wont change.
After reading a bit I had no prob with Thief 1.
Been reading and trying things all day but cant get it to install.
would be nice if someone had an idea :)

Try it with the LGNT command and GO AWAY. It has been known to take an hour or more on Vista and sometimes XP. Maybe this will help for W7.

Did you try running the installer in Windows XP compatibility mode? Might need to do so in addition to admin rights and the -lgntforce switch.
If that doesn't work, it should also be possible to copy the files manually rather than using the somewhat unreliable installer. You can find good instructions on how to do so (

Thanks. TRried it that way and kind of worked. I installed the 1.18 patch too but when I want to start the game it gives me the Safe Disc Test, then the screen turns black and the the error "Thief2.exe is not working properly" (standart windows error message)
Installed the codecs from the cd and tried it with different kompatability options aswell as administrator.
Any further hints from you guys maybe :)
