I never got the blade from this quest either, even if you do everything as described above, there's still a chance they won't get on and then they both dislike you. Sheesh, fix your own dates next time

The trader is the only one who gives you the Bi-Polar Blade. Goval gives you some stupid, worthless belt. Though when I first met him, I was inclined to help him more than anyone else. And I did! But not this time. What's the point of starting a new game if you do the same stuff as last time?

I am not surprised that the Bipolar Blade is only available from Sulen Hlas. Knowing the sense of humor of the developers of Morrowind, I wonder if the properties of that weapon do not, in part, contribute to the trader's bipolar disorder. Pray tell, what are the enchantments on that blade? You may want to think twice about equipping it-it could be another Boots of Blinding Speed, or worse... Fury!

'Fury' now that is a proper weapon. Only the highly skilled are able to weild it successfully. I reccommend all new to Morrowind to find and use it, it has absolutely
NO negative side affects.
unfortunately if you like your armour skills then DO NOT equip it - I had patches, etc but I'lll never touch that damned cursed weapons again.
Yay, I got it. After failing several times I tried raising his disposition up to 100 instead of 70 and telling him to act optimistic.
I has Frenzy and calm humanoid on touch 15 seconds, 30 magnitude for each
It has a really cool model though and is sellable for 20'000 at the museum

The good thing about the Bi-Polar Blade is that it has the chance of calming your enemy. Of course, it can also make him angrier than he already is, too.
P.S. - I typed this with one hand. The other is all cheesy becayse of cheetos.
