My brother gave me a used copy of system shock 2 that he kept for many years, I was looking forward to playing it until I approached an error on my computer screen during installation. Here's what I got:
An error box: Windows NT Install detected
"This product cannot be installed on Windows NT due to
a Microsoft DirectX 6.1(tm) limitation."
Does anyone have an idea on what this means?

Try running setup with the -lgntforce commandline parameter. This is in the FAQ for Thief, and I imagine SS2 will have the same thing.

Uhm, sure... that would be the thread in big red letters stickied at the top of this forum, called (

Just above this post you have, in red letters: (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113688) Important: System Shock Series FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (Technical / Purchasing / Etc.)
and there it is written:
Quote:
Running System Shock 2 on Windows 2000 or Windows XP:
How to Install
* Press the Start Button
* Press the Run button.
* In the box type x:/setup.exe -Lgntforce (where x is the letter of your CD-Rom drive.)
* Press Enter
* Follow the onscreen prompts.
EDIT: And yeah, you should have written "
Problem installing system shock 2", this way people might think you are trying to obtain SS2 illegally which isn't a good idea.

Doh! :o
I should have noticed that one! I don't play SS and hadn't ever paid it much attention. But at least I had provided the right solution...
