"I've long heard rumors that the fine particulate dust used in laser printer toner cartridges may be a health risk. It certainly makes sense: Not all of that stuff can stick to the paper, and if you've ever spilled toner you know there's no way it can be good for your lungs. Now a controlled study is confirming the information, saying that 30 percent of all laser printers tested emit dangerous particles described as "causing lasting damage on the scale of inhaled cigarette smoke." These tiny particles lodge deep in the lungs and can lead to anything from lung irritation to full-on cancer.
The tests come from an Australian technology university and were conducted in a "large open-plan space," and found that printers could increase particulate matter in the air by up to 400 percent."I told them all you could get high by sniffing printed pictures but did they believe me? NO!!! nobody believes 37637598!
now all they have to do is put nicotine in paper and there's the next big US profit. Thats probably why Kinkos employees always die young.

Who's up for Dot Matrix Printers Renaissance?
aguywhoplaysthief on 7/8/2007 at 08:41
Funny you mention that, because I've noticed recently that dot matrix printers are everywhere, most specifically in retail, banks, etc. I asked a clerk at a rental car agency about this a few weeks back, and he said that they were just so much more reliable than lasers, and certainly more than inkjets.
I thought it was pretty funny that the printing technology that I used on my Leading Edge 8088 is still being used by the biggest corporations in the service sector.

Old DM printers do one thing but they do it really well.
I've got some kinda cheap HP photo printer here on the wife's machine...every time you go to print it's got to go through this whole device maintanance dance and tells you all about your ink levels and prompts for this and that. Old DM wil just go brufph, brufph, x3 and there you are!

my printer takes 2 minutes from the time you click print to the time it actually grabs the piece of paper. And it's only a year old. It was cheap though...
