One of the great pains I've lived with since some dipshit thought it wise to hand me keys to a car (dad) is this constant driving need to go find cool shit out in the middle of nowhere. This issue has symptoms, usually starting in the lower part of my guts, slowly working it's way up to a bug in my ass, and eventually accumulating with screaming "HAY LETS GET IN THE CAR AND DRIVE AROUND TIL WE FIND SOMETHING NEAT" at anyone willing to listen. I'm an annoying bastard, needless to say. But I always end up finding the coolest stuff ever, so I'm tolerated.
I also take pictures. Some I've shown here before. These are a few I've taken recently.
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3401/3523702700_c744ba7d37_o.jpg) An Old Graveyard. Because you can't say you're an amateur photographer until you've taken at least one black and white photo of an old graveyard.
This one is way out in the middle of nowhere, up half a mile of dirt road with only a little wooden sign saying "Cemetary" showing anything's up there. I might go back there some moody full moon night and go really corny.
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3549/3522897421_3889503a10_o.jpg) A Shed. Nothing much more to say about this one. The only thing I regret is that, just up the road, is a house that's the very definition of Southern Gothic I didn't get a single shot of. It's an enormous three story plantation house, complete with weeping willows and spanish moss. The no trespassing sign didn't phase me, but the beware of dog sign did...so I bailed.
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3615/3522897613_a7fb87ee4d_o.jpg) A Neat Dead Tree. Nothing too grand here. All except that bird. I'm pretty sure it was glued and/or nailed to the tree. I took about 6 shots, and the thing never moved once. Also t:mad:
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3314/3522897811_4d05154e66_o.jpg) A nice old church. I wasted about 50 shots trying to get a good photo to take home. The shot you see here was taken from the hip as I was leaving. Ain't nothing like serendipity.
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3328/3523702968_f49c0cf465_o.jpg) Railroad Bridge. Ken Burns will want to bear my illegitimate civil war babies for this one. Look at it for five minutes. You'll hear the harmonica, I swear.
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3395/3523560729_9ff7a38b11_o.jpg) Old window in an abandoned house at midnight. Did some light B&E for this one. The house itself isn't too far from where I live, and I know it's been abandoned for 15 years at least. For some reason, no one's ever bothered switching off the security light in the back yard. Hence the reason why the shot beyond the window is so well lit.
(
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/2472587196_12b42881e8_b.jpg) Old house with plants growing around it. Can't get much more descriptive than that.

Hell, after all this, I should just start start up a blog and be done with it. Anyway, I'm sorta proud of them and figured I'd show them off to everyone here. Critique at will, and enjoy.

Is there a farmhouse near that graveyard? And a car crashed into a tree?
They're coming to get you, Barbaraaa...

I like the angle of the graveyard shot. Love graveyards anyway.
That neat dead tree is giving me the finger, bastard. Black and whites rule the world for me. Love them. The shed, I see some crazed lunatic running out of it. Good reflection in the railroad bridge. Nice job.:thumb:
I'm going to break out my dads old canon A1 and take some pictures this weekend.

I say go for it and post them up. I'd love to check them out.
And no crazed lunatics running out of that shed, unfortunately. I did find a badger hole nearby, though...and promptly dropped rocks down it. Sad to say, it didn't come out. No pictures there. :(

Actually, I heard the baying of the hounds as they track an escaped convict who comes splashing through the water and underneath the bridge.

Man, Renz, I do the exact same thing but with the field recorder I bought a few months ago. I can't take a simple walk anymore without coming across some stupid little transformer, or a conversation in Korean, or a rattling gate, and think "shit I gotta sample that!" What's this obsession with documenting everything to be enjoyed later? All I know is that in two months I've accumulated over 4gb of found sound; everything from "squishy muck footsteps.wav" to "cello piano duet in arts building.wav".
So keep up the good work; if life sometimes seems uninteresting we'll MAKE it interesting, dammit.

I absolutely love that photo of the bridge.
I recently got my own camera and went on a trip to Africa and Europe, the photos are (
http://shakey.deviantart.com/gallery/) here, and since I've gotten back I have felt that same desire to just go out somewhere I've never been and find something to photo. I don't have a car, which is a problem, but have devised a plan to pick random buses, alight at random stops, and find an interesting photo. Then hope I can find my way back :erm:

So when is someone going to post a "Woman"?

Bah. Getting lost is half the fun. :thumb:
Those pictures are absolutely beautiful. I gotta say, I'm a bit envious you've been able to tour and capture Europe and Africa. Europe especially is one place I'd love to go. I look at your shots, then visit sites like Abandoned Places and...damn...I get all covetous. Eh, I've got the entirety of the dirty south to play in. Can't complain too much, I guess. ;)
I think you're quite a bit better with the camera than I am, by the way. I almost always convert my photos to B&W because I seem to have this complete inability to capture colors in that vivid, crisp, but soft in all the right places look you see with most professional photography. I try, but I always seem to fall just short. You, on the other hand, have it straight up nailed. I'd love it if you could throw a few pointers my way.
Aja...damn. You've got all these sound files on hand, but I don't think I've ever seen you posting down in the FM boards. I think you're depriving us all of something cool here. :)

I like the shot of the old factory best. There's something capturing in the lines and the placement of the building in the middle of the picture works here quite well, giving a very static feeling.
