Actually, in the commentary for 'A Hole in the World' (where Fred dies), Whedon said that he felt that Angel and Spike probably got together at one point. Also, in White Wolf Games'
Vampire: The Masquerade, vampires could get AIDS, and I think they even could die from it, though I'm not certain about the last part.

They're perfectly capable of doing that. Congress just decided that 187 of them was enough because for most missions, the less capable F-35 will do fine. It was a good high-tech manufacturing jobs program though.
