Yeah, this is fashion at work. There's probably even some highly questionable study floating around design circles about warm/cold complimentary approaches being 'the best' some how and everyone has jumped on it, knowingly or not ("science" use like that is fashion too).
I'd be all for putting some contrast back, but for the most part
Aliens was aping the cool, soft look of
Alien, particularly in the early stages. Why mess with that? And it isn't like the new version makes the nest scene look
more hellish after doing that to it. Fussing over skintones being 'right' is sophomoric hackery really (what colour do you reckon skin is when you put it under a yellow light or whatever?) and undermines efforts to create a living atmosphere.
The more this stuff happens the more you have to respect Ridley Scott's integrity on this sort of thing. He recuts to update things now and then, but mostly he knows things are of their time and stronger for it.
