Well, you can definitely give a rope mesh the property of a ladder, and GArrett will climb it. It does look pretty hokey, especially when he steps up off the top of it, but it's not too bad in first-person view.
Aside from the static meshes, there is one piece of rope listed in the Actor Browser, under "Set Dressings" I think...

See if you can make anything of Condition > Objects > When my object contacts the ground and Action > Objects > Spawn object type at end of [LinkFlavor] at my location plus X=[Float] Y=[Float] Z=[Float], inheriting all my links.

There's a rope arrow sound too (it's listed anyway), I wonder if there might be a way to create a hack that would work. For example a script that spawns an actor with the static mesh for a rope at the position of the arrow upon impact. It wouldn't have any cool swing, and Garret's animations would look pretty hokey, but it might work?
Perhaps there is a way to make the Garrett mesh invisible, so that animations are no longer a problem (back to the "floating head" of T1/2).
This would of course make 3rd person a bit daft, but who cares?

Hey, if it can add a bit more functionality into the game I say go for it. The only thing I would be concerned with is the lightgem. From what I understand, it gets the light readings from the Garrett model. Perhaps I misunderstood that.
At any rate, if we were able to just get a set of hands in there with the appropriate animations, you could probably save a bit on performance as well. You would also have better character control. Hell, if it's possible you could get old school leaning back in too.

You could get them back in, yes... but without UScript, you'd have to put the scripts into every level you want them to work in. Not a lot of work, but a lot of MB for others to download.
