Several forum functions don't seem to work for me today, I can't post smileys by clicking on the panel, I can't edit posts (clicking the "save" button does nothing) etc. - any idea what's happening?

Pretty much this, or empty your cache as it sounds like a lack of JavaScript or a corrupt JavaScript file.
