We avoided it but not for those reasons. We had a lot of dealings with kids who were involved in some "satanic" style suicide things so it wasn't much of a holiday for us before we had kids. Since we moved away from the area where that stuff was going on, it's been a lot easier to enjoy and not so serious. Having kids helps too. :)
