Basically, unless they're gonna force you on a regular basis to go over noise areas it's gonna still be too easy.

It's fine he'd be mistaken for one of the loud clanky machines.

When crouching, the player becomes auto-silent on normal surfaces
Depends what you mean by "normal surfaces". We know crouching through water creates noise, and it's possible other surfaces do too.

I mean normal solid surfaces that are walked on...and because water is not a surface that can be walked on, it qualifies as a "noise-making object" that lies on top of a normal, solid, walkable surface.
Again, because the surface-scape will only contain a small fraction of "noise-making objects", the vast majority of the time the player will be able to easily circumvent the "move silently challenge" without using player skill.

So this is an interesting thing they're doing - answering questions.
They are taking questions specifically about movement mechanics now so we might get more info on silent movement.

If Eidos focused on crouching to be silent, then is creep good for anything anymore? I usually creep if an npc was too close since more believable than crouching, at least for the world I tried to envision in my head. Especially if crouching might accidentally pressure bowel movements to fart noise next to the npc.

Don't underestimate Garrett-sensei my friends, he can swoop through everything without getting noticed, even in front of a guard's vision field.

I interpreted the article as saying that crouching was NOT completely silent. You're mostly silent, but on "some surfaces" you make noise. That seems to be in addition to noise patches, though it's not completely clear:
Quote:
You're
almost completely silent when crouching, although you're not very fast, either. You need to be careful where you're stepping,
some surfaces will make more noise than others even if you're crouching. There are also surfaces that are a beneficial to you, like carpets or grass
Regardless, it's a step up from TDS.

The latest podcast on the issue clearly states that you can be spotted while swooping.

Is there still creeping? I don't remember seeing it on the control scheme.

Did they show off a PC control scheme? If you're referring to the PS4 control scheme that was shown, creeping would probably be accomplished by pushing the left stick slowly! I think it was like this in TDS?
