"If Garrett moves across certain areas, such as broken glass on the floor, he’ll also attract unwanted attention. Even if he moves silently across them, they’ll still make a sound if you step on them and guards will react to that."
So no, you can't move silently on all surfaces. Hopefully this isn't just for clutter on the ground but for things like water and such. Though they do in the same breath say crouching is silent except for noise patches... so I guess tiled floors remaining loud is out, unless some tiles are broken :nono:
Otherwise, apparently AI respond to each other's barks and a lot of stimuli which is good, and the difficulty is supposed to affect AI rather than number.

We already knew that different surfaces made different amounts of noise.

Ah sorry if I wasn't clear, but what I was referring to was crouching.
It was believed up til this point that crouching is silent, however this new info specifically says some surfaces make noise even when crouching. If this is true, and well handled, it's +1 above TDS

Oh, I see. Why did we think crouching was silent?

Wonder what happens if you SWOOP across glass.
Also, you will be able to jump across the broken glass?
SubJeff on 30/8/2013 at 15:28
Jumping unlikely.

Way I figure it, crouching is completely silent (alike TDS) unless you walk on broken glass and other clutter. I don't think the material you walk on has any effect (tile, wood, stone, ect.) unless you're not crouching. I'd be happy if I were wrong, though. It is a step up from TDS, but not by much.

Hmm, maybe you can do an inverted backflip via QTE over the broken glass.

Yes, this is what I deduced, as well...When crouching, the player becomes auto-silent on normal surfaces unless specifically traversing a "noise-making object" that is placed on that surface...Because "noise-making objects" will be the exception within the surface-scape, by and large, the "move silently challenge" will be easily and automatically defeatable, simply by crouching.

And broken glass can be defeated with a dustpan and brush.
