I'm playing Thief using gog.com download in a Wineskin wrapper. Is it at all possible to play FMs?
(Total computer novice, plain English much appreciated!)

I don't own a Mac, but if you launch the game with the -fm parameter, you should be good to go.

Hmm, I play Thief and the FMs on my Mac in Bootcamp and it all seems to work fine. That might be worth looking into.

I run FMs thru parallels with no issues. In my experience, parallels is just as stable as bootcamp, but runs a little slower. The speed is an issue if you try to play more modern games (Skyrim, Far Cry, etc...) but has never been a problem for me on even the most graphics-intensive FMs.
EDIT: the big advantage of parallels relative to bootcamp is that you don't have to re-boot to switch between mac and windows. I can have all my work up and take a quick thief break anytime i want :)

I can confirm this works as described with my Wineskin wrapper. Just loaded a fan mission and played it for a bit. The only annoying thing is that the cursor of OS X is still visible when playing the level. It's in the center of the screen and it also trails the arrow the game provides when using the menus. But this is easily fixed.
The steps to enable the Fan Mission Selector are the following:
- Locate the Thief application (the Wineskin bundle)
- Right click and choose "Show package contents"
- Choose drive_c and then the directory where you installed Thief (probably Program Files)
- Locate cam_mod.ini and uncomment the fm parameter
If you start Thief after these changes the FM Selector appears first.
To get rid of the mouse cursor:
- Launch the Wineskin Settings menu
- Choose "Set Screen Options"
- Set "Override Wine control of Screen Settings" to "Override"
- Select "Fullscreen" as the main setting and you're done.
The game will now launch in a fullscreen desktop emulation instead of separate windows. Probably the mission selector mucks up the focus of windows forcing the OS X cursor to appear.
