Hey there
Well iam not sure if anyone is going to back me up on this idea.. But i have been thinking about a new ss2 fan site..
Since i have read some places around this forum that this site is allmost dead, but not the forums, i was thinking about making a new ss2 fan site combined with a forum, where everyone could actually create and edit pages on the site.. Like if all of you could add files, links in the main menu, write guides that not only display in the forum, and so on ? Would it be stupid to make such a site, waste of time or ?
Hmm.. i just think it is an atempt to do something new.. :)

Its a nice idea but 2 major issues.
1. Who pays? Web space is not free, especially if you want to add files to download. You can find some site that offer free web space but they always have some catch, like adverts we can't control or bandwidth limitations.
2. Who monitors. If anyone can add pages, etc, even if you make it member only you need to have someone keeping an eye on it. A user account gets hacked or somone gets peed off and the next thing you know the registered owner of the site is hauled off to prison for something nasty posted on the site.

I would be willing to go buy a domain.. I really want to make something for the shock universe.. But as for the monitoring, i was hoping that someone here on this site would help.. If everyone will have the freedom to create pages and so in it will also get abused.. Maybe we could let the things created need an administrator agreetment before they are showed on the page or something?

Not sure if we need a new site but the existing one at TTLG could certainly do with some organising. The majority of links section is dead (ss2 petition link is also dead).
Never quite understood why there are so much useless files as well, rather than hosting themes and alpha/beta screenshots why not put some newer screens and modifications etc on there. Though I doubt anyone cares about that stuff than me so meh :p
I think it would of been cool to have a BioShock come SystemShock hybrid website considering more people are to be playing and modifying the latter now.

Year the page could include both games.. I could also just make it as a form of "New DataBank" and then questions and talking could be refered to this forum if that would make it any easier ?

There's is no good reason to try and fracture the community more. If you want files, go to (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de) Strange Bed Fellows. And we have these forums, obviously.

When Strangebedfellows started out there was the same fear of fracturing the community. Even though SBF became a success, that didn't happen. Mainly because the site was never meant to be an alternative for TTLG's shock forums but an additional service for their users.
If you can provide something useful that isn't available elsewhere, I'd say go with it. But be aware that this is the main discussion board for the shock game series and that's not likely to change. TTLG's well known and has a vast archive of information. We're standing on the shoulders of giants here. :)
So do you have a "unique selling point"? What you said sounds like a shock wiki with file attachments. That's almost exactly what SBF is, except it's not technically a wiki. (It is a hybrid forum/wiki.)
So you would have to trust in the inherent powers of the wiki concept. Which apparently you do as you seem to think that starting and hosting the site is enough work (It is.) and users will create the content for you (Unlikely.). There's not much incentive for them to do so when there's nothing interesting there in the first place to build upon. That kickstart will have to come from you or someone else who's dedicated to the task. At least that's my experience. In any case, good luck.

Disregarding the 2-3 posters who have joined SBF in the last 2-3 weeks to request help for technical help or tried to start general discussions that were already taking place on here. :-)

Yeah we try to answer technical questions on the spot because most of the time it involves downloads from SBF anyway. And general discussions I usually send over here, since they find more resonance here.
EDIT: Or did you mean to say SBF is not a success?
