Hi everyone,
I read that Dromed only uses a single core on the CPU (is this still true for Newdark?).
Right now I have an i5 with 4 cores, each running on 3,4ghz.
Does this mean that if I'm going to get an 8 (physical) core CPU next year, with each core running on 2,2ghz, that it will run slower, especially when portalizing?

Ahh I see. Thanks for the info.
As I'm dromedding a lot I will change my plan and have a look at one of these :)

My recommendation is to get a pre-owned 4790k/4770k or a good Xeon workstation for DromEd. If you're luky, you can save a lot of money.

There is a difference between slower and slow by 1998-2000 standards. I wouldn't really think of any of today's PCs as being slow. It all depends on how large of a mission you are trying to portalize. My largest missions took about 1-2 minutes on my quad core running at 2.4 GHz compared to my first mission taking 30 minutes on a Pentium II.

Exactly. Unless you are literally getting a new PC exclusively for Thief, I would go ahead and get however many cores makes you happy since it makes a difference in about all other tasks and programs. While theoretically what's being discussed here could be true, I can't imagine it really makes a big difference. I have a 4-year old quad core PC and Dromed is still blazingly fast in terms of portalization and ObjCast lighting, compared to days of yore on my old single core XP machine.

I would be spoiled if I had a PC exclusively for Thief. :D Anyway we still have area brushes to give more immediate results in a specific area. :) I wonder if we could establish some benchmarks for portalization.

I bought the i7 8700k, cooled it pretty well too. In Dromed, I compared some processing/portalization times and I'm getting about a 40% increase in times. Which is exactly what you get when you compare both CPU's in that list Unna Oertdottir posted.
@Yandros, nah not getting it exclusively for Thief hehe, but it's sure cool to have faster processing times! I needed a new CPU for video editing as well and gaming.
