Seems pretty obvious to me, at least, that the last paragraph is facetious; doesn't mesh at all with the tone of the preceding sections.

The entire situation is a mess either way, and as far as I'm aware a major component was that parents don't get welfare unless their kids are attending school, which will also apply to everybody in Australia.

Just for a few seconds imagine you had grown up in an aboriginal settlement. Where 3 out of 5 children are sexually abused, so chances are you were one of them. And you live in an improvised hut with ten or more people, lots of them hard drinkers, the man who abused you might well be one of them. Your parents never cared much for sending you to school. So you lose the job in town and go back to the settlement. And chances are you become a victim of violence again, or maybe you stab someone for a change because you don't want to be a victim all the time. No one here dreams of being a doctor, lawyer or anything, they dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard.
Clearly, then, what we should be doing, is sending them a monthly 500$ cheque, until the end of time, so they can spend it on more booze, drugs, or whatever else. Because that'll certainly improve their situation.
Stupidity is doing the same thing over, and over again, and expecting a different result. So far, so bad.

The answer to social problems is not to introduce social injustices. No matter how bad things are, this is no justification for installing disgusting racist measures like this.
If anything's disgusting, it's the way those aboriginal 'community leaders' are pretending that there isn't a pretty damn big problem.
White Man's Firewater isn't a bloody God-Given right.
Now, to quote the article:
Quote:
"If they're going to do that, they're going to have to do that with every single person in Australia, not just black people."
You know what? I'd love to see that happen, too. The implementation of the policy may well be attacked as racism, but frankly, the idea behind it is dead-on.
Nobody is entitled to spend
public money on alcohol and drugs, and if an elected official would even think of doing so, I'm sure Stronts would be on the front line to lynch him.

I just thought of a superb idea though, which cannot fail! Take all the children off aborigines! No I mean seriously, just think about it! They wouldn't suffer abuse, sexual or otherwise- whitey doesn't do such things, and they can go to religious orphanages and such, just to guarantee it- would be treated well and be raised to be just like whitey in a loving and respectful environment with absolutely no random beatings, slavery, sex slavery, racist abuse or other such impossibilities! You know they'll all come out better off, and if they don't, then it's their fault for not coping! It can't go wrong! I'm emailing John to suggest it, right now!
After all 'tis ever the white man's burden, seeing that darkie gets civilised!
Yes Stronts, that's sarcasm, just in case you're suffering another righteousness induced brain bypass.
John fucking Howard. How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways...

God help me for asking this, Stronts, but since you're quite vocal about what you believe the solution isn't, would you care to say a bit about what is?

Of course not, but I tried to show you what your somewhat simplistic plan would lead to and how it could affect a person.
And I did agree already that the law they are about to pass should be enforced on everyone who receives welfare to insure justice and equality.
SD, the last paragraph in my last post was ironic. It was aimed at what Swiss Mercenary had said. I know why you missed that. Because in your mind I'm the stupid evil German who's incapable of empathy. Remember what GBM said about us all being just normal persons at the end of the day?

The answer is simple: make the beer and porn companies pay for their checks, that way the money goes around in a circle and everyone's happy!

@ StD: (
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21949116-601,00.html) Welfare curbs could affect everyone. The idea being that the money for welfare is directed to the children not the chainsmoking alcoholic parents. There aren't enough foster parents (especially long term carers) to take all the kids in with problems as I understand it.

So how are you going to determine where the money they spend came from, and where it's going? That can be a very difficult problem (almost like following a specific drop of water through the ocean), even in the case where there are no other sources of income or liquid assets. For example, if you want to make sure that someone isn't turning money into alcohol (or porn, or whatever), you not only have to check expenditures, but also check that the goods and services purchased are actually being used by that person - there's no ethical way to do that.
I wouldn't expect any sort of positive outcome from such a policy, no matter how carefully you try to avoid racism. The best you're likely to get out of it is some sort of black market, and there's a pretty good chance of corruption and abuse of power too. I don't see any advantages either, and certainly none that would justify this cost.

There was a whole big series of articles in Australian newspapers a few months ago based on the issue of child sexual abuse in Aboriginal communities coming to prominence and one thing that was mentioned was that young children would be watching porn with adults and maybe this ban is designed to stop this problem.
