As for the difference between Allah and the God of the Old and New Testament-they are 180 degrees apart. If you read the Koran and are familiar with the Bible, you will quickly see that the Koran is a bizarre mixture of pagan Arab beliefs, plagiarized Bible stories and some really mean spirited rants Mohammed goes into about his foes.
But that's precisely where the contention lies Sneak. As a Westerner who has been exposed to the Bible from childhood in one form or another, the Koran appears to be bizzare, 'pagan', and contain bad carbon copies of Bible events. But to someone familiar with the Koran from childhood, the Bible appears to be the stepchild of the Koran. To people familiar with neither, the mean spirited rants in both the Koran and Old Testament sound dangerous, genocidal, etc. because they are usually read with no context.
I'll give you that the context of the Koran is pretty much 'KILL THE INFIDEL' but I doubt the Pope has even read much of the Koran. If he's so quick to apologize without further explanation of his comment, I suspect he has no context from which to support it.

Actually, the context is genocide.

I would hope the Pope has read the whole of the Koran and hopefully also some of the Hadith!

To some degree yes, but even that is an typical western oversimplification of both texts.
I would hope the the pope has read the Koran as well, but he's not getting many points for intellect or acadamia lately...
I just miss the days when you could tell people to fuck right off and mean it from the bottom of your heart and not have to apologize because you offended them. That's the purpose ain't it?

Ya he as well, might be some good homework for some people over here too. Wasn't even the pope that said it, he was just quoting a king that had the pleassure of living in that great period of peace and respect. Truth hurts.

Ignoring the fact that I didn't mean to generalize the entirety of Christianity with my original statement, what are these "problems" you speak of?
The problems that I am talking about are these misunderstandings between religions, where one religion freaks out at anothere without a full understanding of what they truly believe in.

Er, not sure Christianity can level that particular charge without breaking the glass house it's in.

Well Easter and Christmas are of pagan origin themselves, however those holidays arent mentioned in the Bible and history shows they were added on later by the Catholics who in their zeal to convert pagans often took their days of celebration and attached Christian meanings to them to make their change easier-more info can be found at (
http://yadayahweh.com/chapter.aspx?g=5105&i=51503). In contrast you can find in the Koran mention of rituals practiced by the pagan Arabs (walking around sacred hills etc) that predate Islam yet are given the green light by Mohommed as acts of worship.

but there's a lot in the bible about not wearing certain cloths, sacrificing animals and suchlike as well.
Also "walking around hills"? These people are more barbaric than I dared imagine!
