Ha ha. That's what I find soooo very funny about this all.
Pope "suggests" that Islam is a violent religion, Muslims go spare, say "How dare you say such a thing!" and security is upped around the Pope just in case some violent Muslims decide to do some violence. Hahahahah. Idiots.
Yes, you could view what the Pope actually said as condescending RBJ. He'd better have his facts right if he is going to talk about the Islamic interpretation of Allah and Allah's will/reasoning in that way. And if this was the reason there is so much uproar I'd think it fair enough for someone to be offended by that, especially if it were a bunch of Muslim scholars saying "Hold up, that's not the way it goes you word-twister!"
But it's not, it's something much more simple that has been taken out of context in the dumbest of ways. To sadly hilarious effect.

Well, to be honest, I can actually see the Muslims angry response being legitimate and not that ironic at all if it actually wasn't a religion that was in part associated with extreme violence. Sadly it's the extremists that fuck it up for every religion, Catholicism not excluded.
And SE, I think this stopped being a hilarious effect the moment people started committing violence in the wake of this act, such as the attacks upon churchs that occurred today, I can't find the link I saw earlier. :(

Pretty sure this is faked. I've seen it with about three different versions of the text now (of course, one of them might be an original). They vary in craziness. It also seems like everyone's MUSLIM OUTRAGE! pics seem to contain the same five people. The ones which are even contemporary in the first place. Not that you ever have to look very far for ridiculous placards whenever someone insults, or is perceived to insult, a world religion, mind you.
Incidentally, the full text of His Popiness' lecture is actually quite interesting in a dusty, archaic kind of way.
In light of the link above, it's worth remembering that "another aid worker killed in Mogadishu" would probably not be high-profile news outside of the current context and speculation is .. exactly that.

Haha oh dear. Pope Benedict has managed to (
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5349578.stm) offend millions of Muslims around the world by saying that Mohammed had brought the world only "evil and inhuman" things.
Does this man have a deathwish, or is he just trying to undo decades of reconciliatory work between the faiths? And why couldn't I think up a decent pun for the title of this thread? Answers on a postcard!
Allah seems rather easily offended these days. :tsktsk:

The outrage seemed confined to the same four video clips used by virtually every cable news outlet. How that equals "muslims worldwide", I'm not sure. Plus, by the looks of it, the art of crafting proper effigies is in steep decline.

Oh yeah, it is! I wasn't offering it as a legit contribution to the thread, more like an ironic laffo.

I am no longer a practicing Roman Catholic because of the hypocracy of a so called Christian religion that truly believes that anyone not practicing the "approved" version of their religion doesn't count. If you are not certified Catholic but follow another doctrine, you are not invited to participate in the sacrament of Holy Communion. In other words, you don't count. This from a religion famous for many atrocities committed in the name of God. Also, from an organization that refuses to discipline their own clergy for sexual abuse committed by these members while shielding them from any legal actions. The so-called priests are merely transferred to another parish with more unsuspecting innocents to plunder. I felt uncomfortable sitting in church listening to a possible sexual predator telling me how I should live my life.
I would believe that the Pope, the "mouthpiece of God", would say just about anything against another religion. He isn't sorry, he's just sorry he got called on it.
