oh god did I just go nerdrage over SUPERMAN? I'm not even a fan... The only DC comic I ever liked was Batman. I'm more of a Marvel Guy.

The critical core of Jesus is that he was a man who spread the word of God and that his authority derives from a close and tangible relationship with the divine. "Demoting" Jesus from Son of God to Holy Prophet does not alter this fundamental core, and in fact doesn't even really diminish the authority ascribed to his teachings.
Actually in the New Testement Jesus made numerous overt claims to divinity and spoke as one with first hand knowledge of God. The shocked religious authorities knew what he meant when he said 'before Abraham was I was'. If those claims had been false, it would have made everything he taught a lie and cruelly mislead his followers. A person who claims divinity but doesnt really have it is a nutcase or demonically evil so one should not give any credence to his teachings. Since I believe his claims and that the Resurrection is a bona fide historical event (check out Lee Strobel's book
The Case for Christ) I accept them, but if I thought his claim to be divine was false-I would say to hell with his sermons, one should not get his morals from a con man.

So heavily entrenched dogma is fine if it wasn't actually laid down in the founding tenets of the faith?
I never said added on traditions were good, personally I'd love to see Easter, Christmas, Sun-day worship and similar things removed from Churches and keep worship close to the Bible instead, without all of the man-made traditions piled on.

Oh and by the way, when I was a kid I was a bit of an Iron Man fan, but I've lately begun to like Batman myself after watching Begins.:thumb:

Oh right... I forgot about the whole resurrection.

That would leave them with absolutely nothing to do...

Heh, I think the only reason I know that Superman originally jumped instead of flew is because of a post you made a while back.

Agent Monkeysee on 18/9/2006 at 20:15
i think it was "strong" or something gay like that though i believe it's been retconned into some kind of kryptonite character for Kal-El or something
lol i know superman's real name NERDS
Gingerbread Man on 18/9/2006 at 20:26
No, it stands for Superman. Regardless of the fact that it wasn't until the (
http://xroads.virginia.edu/~UG02/yeung/actioncomics/page5.html) newspapers basically needed to give him a name that anyone ever called him that.
Then it all got retconned years and years later, yeah.
At first, Siegel just basically suggested it to Shuster as a costume tweak because hey he's called superman lets put an s on him so everyone knows.
Also lols, I'd forgotten what a hilarious issue Action Comics 1 was.
(ps also extra bonus Superman was originally a baldhead and a villain to boot, which is more or less how Lex Luthor came from)
