...:laff:...I think that says it all, right there.

"It's a little surprising to see a game that they've been working on for so long, have so many bugs. I know this isn't a finished version of the game, they say it's feature complete and they have a lot of polish to do, but I had two or three hard crashes, I had several times where I got stuck in things...It's certainly a game that needs a lot of work still." ~ Brian Crecente
It was bad enough already...with this making it even worse...:nono:

Right at 2:44 is that W again that jtr is talking about.

The reports from people who have played the game seem to slowly be getting better, which is nice. The biggest negative point raised was that the interviewer found lots of crashes and other bugs. He didn't mention any problems with the AI or game mechanics.
I am amazed in the turnaround in the way EM are talking about combat. Now thief is trying to distinguish itself from other stealth games on the market by being "the pure stealth game", which is a welcome change in tone from E3. The interviewer seems to agree. (Although it's not quite clear whether combat should be avoided because it's punishing, or because it feels clumsy and isn't fun ... personally I don't mind too much either way.)

Man oh man. Feb can't come soon enough. Also, Chade, good mechanics and AI don't mean squat if the game crashes and is buggy.
Chade on 11/11/2013 at 12:33
Of course they do: I've played lots of fantastic buggy games, but never the reverse.
But that's not really what I'm saying is positive here. The positive part is that this is an improvement on where EM were earlier on in the year. If the biggest risk we have now is that the game crashes a few times (which I'm not saying is true, but that is what TFA emphasized), that's an enormous reduction in overall risk since E3.

Where can I get Dark Shadows?
Will it work on Win8?

You didn't find his comments about combat to be negative? It's awkward, not fun, but you can fight your way through groups of guards?
I don't see what makes this review better than earlier ones...he doesn't really give many direct comments about the game, and a third of them are about how buggy and unfinished it is.

Unfortunately, the "biggest risk" is still contextual movement. No Hammers, Pagans, Keepers, or Russell either.
Enjoy your Thief brand action-lite gaming experience on rails.

It's much better the polygon's earlier previews. Look at the way he introduced the game, talked about stealth, and concluded:

introductionAt a time where there are so many stealth action games to choose from, thief is a game that is a pure stealth title.
comments about stealthSo really, you want to play the game like you would play a pure stealth game. When you approach it that way, you find yourself really enjoying it, it's a lot of fun to try and find these purely stealth approach, to solving these essentially thieving riddles.
conclusionHaving not yet played through the missions, it's hard to say whether I'm going to like this game. I like the premise, I like some of the ideas, I think it's also going to require a certain interest in stealth and a willingness to only do stealth, but I can't say right now whether this is a game I'd love to play or not because I haven't played it.
Compare that to their earlier articles, where they hated pretty much everything. Now it's supposedly a good stealth experience with bad combat and bugs.

I know we've argued in the past about what sort of combat you want in a thief game. I like a lot of what he said about combat (bolded below).
Quote Posted by TFA
You use a billy club to sort of ineffectually swing at your enemies. You get into the thick of battle, you could probably batter your way out of these guards that are all around you, but it's not a fun process.
Frankly it doesn't feel like something that they've developed to allow you to really do.At the end of the day, the only thing I care about combat is that people want to avoid it and are capable of doing so. If the new system encourages people to slog through a lot of boring combat because it works, that would be a terrible failure. If the new system encourages people to avoid combat because there's no satisfying strategy and it wastes resources, that would be great.

You would assume so, yes. One brief article that doesn't go into much detail about anything isn't enough to drastically change the overall picture.
